On softspoken members of the elites 👇🏼
volts.wtf
... they talk about backing away, routing around, looking to states or maybe overseas, cultivating relationships with Republicans, etc. etc.

You know what not a single one has said? "I'm going to fight him. I'm going to destroy him & his movement & salt the fucking earth where they lay." Zero.

Not sure how the Federal gov‘t will make available eventually. Another relevant comparison is with the 24m that the state of BaWü will spend on additional partnership with US.

On the Banerjee/Duflo move:

- Congrats to both and @econ.uzh.ch!

- Really significant. In econ, perhaps the first Nobelists-exit-US event ever.

- Even more important: 🇺🇸 soon losing 1000s of students and juniors. Welcoming them will be costly but we owe it.

„Even if funding is fully restored in a matter of months — a scenario that seems unlikely — the researchers estimate half a million more cases and nearly 100,000 more deaths by the end of the decade.“

100% agree with your dissatisfaction about the level of diversity.

But it's not the Swedish academy's fault that 95% of candidates are old white men. Rather, we normal people (including we normal faculty) should shape the juniors' careers better.

In econ lingo: it's also supply, not only demand.

NEW | Solar and wind OUTPACED global electricity demand growth in the first half of 2025, leading to a fall in fossil fuels compared to this time last year ☀️🌪️

Record solar and steady wind growth is reshaping global power as renewables OVERTAKE coal for the first time.
