I've seen refugee aid efforts defeat multi-year occupations by regional / national police forces who deployed 30x the amount of resources. Hell I've been part of that.

It is *very* possible.

ICE's budget has a limit.
Make them use it.

ICE's morale has a limit.
Make them lose it.

Solar power overtakes coal and gas in Germany, a country with little sun
Germany produced 18% of its electricity through solar power in 2025, up from 14% in 2024, a significant leap that meant solar overtook both coal and methane gas in the country’s electrical supply – despite the high latitudes the whole country sits at. more…

Yes. You basically need to hand the entire capex bill to the USG. If you give XOM and CVX a free call on that going well (it won't) they'll take it.

But also: they are not going to be able to spin up meaningful prod in the next year or two; it's a very short clock.
as previously discussed downthread from the patient zero discussion that ended with sky off of here, the amount of subsidy to make this profitable (and thus palatable to any US company) is hilariously large

"In normal liberal democracy terms, the US is in bad shape. But in consolidated authoritarianism terms, we’re doing pretty well."

I wrote about the weirdness of walking around the monuments in DC, three ways the Trump regime stumbled this year, and why I'm cautiously optimistic heading into 2026.
Washington DC is Messed Up, But the Regime is Failing
America is no longer a constitutional democracy yet is far from consolidated authoritarianism. It's important to recognize both of those at once.

(1) Trump wants the Venezuelan oil
(2) it will require lots of capex and may not be financially or logistically feasible to restart oil production
(3) Rubio likely sold this to Trump on the basis of oil royalty/revenue while he wanted to contain Havana and enforce LatAm order
the entire thing was insane. it was like "you must be lying about sour crude because if this war was for oil, it must be worthwhile"

Marco Rubio is reportedly saying Maduro will stand trial in US courts.

Which means it’s now the US administration’s position that US courts can hold foreign presidents, but not the US president, accountable for crimes.

Trump just announces the US will be running Venezuela now, until the can do a "safe, proper, and judicious" transfer of power. Announcing an occupation before you've occupied a country is a new one.

One month ago, Trump pardoned former Honduran president Juan Orlando Hernández from a 45-year sentence for drug trafficking and weapons charges. The Trump administration doesn’t care about drugs or weapons, despite what it currently says about Venezuela’s Maduro.

I don't see a better option than USD. China doesn't have open capital markets. Eurozone is too fragmented. Crypto is... lol.

What Trump's doing to Fed independence, to inflationary risk via tariffs/labor supply shocks, and to US reputation is bad and risky. But I'm not near where Sky is yet.

I agree with you. Global actors prefer dollar denominated assets, even at low real returns, because they maximize liquidity, legal certainty, depth, and optionality. That said, I think Sky's point becomes more valid when any of three structural conditions fail:
