Pretty sure this is a first sighting for me. Juvenile cooper's hawk. I wonder if they're hunting the animals making snow tunnels or the tiny birds that come to this spot of the yard for "weed" seeds.

Hey so this seems like something more people should be talking about 🤔 🗳️

Ceiling buddy waited for me to brush my teeth then he dropped so I could move him to the plant room. Rich dark brown with a cream stripe around the abdomen front and a stripe heading down the center. Looks similar to Steatoda grossa. #InverteFest

Used a Crock-Pot as a humidifier in the basement with unfiltered city tap water. On the second day it smelled like an indoor pool and I was choking on the air. I think it made one of my scale babies sick and now she's on a month of shots to hopefully clear her lungs.🤦 High-end humidifier is cheaper.
I don’t give a shit about your accomplishments this year. What’s the dumbest shit you did the past 12 months? The truly stupidest decision you made in 2025?

My parents were just relieved we made it to the altar childfree when none of my brothers did (they're all happy and their kids are amazing). We made it clear to my in-laws that kids would not be happening. Now we have lizards they could adopt as grands!
In-laws: “Are we going to have grandkids next Christmas?”

Saw a clip with Joey Batey saying, "We're not very good" about his band The Amazing Devil. Anyone who's heard their music begs to disagree. I think the majority of their target audience just hasn't found them, yet, and that's sad. Take a listen, see if that's you.

The key to the art of the "ding-dong ditch" is the ding-dong. If you just bang on someone's glass storm door and run away it is much less likely the inhabitant will feel comfortable or interested in opening the door. Especially in 2025 USA.

Dangit, I was having a really fun dream where I was hanging out with @steampoweredgiraffe.com out of costume because they were my neighbors (!) and I think we were about to go see a movie or something which would've been lovely. I wish I was still asleep.

I've been typing up one of my stories this week because the events span more than 4 years & I'm struggling to remember important details and the timeline as I'm bouncing around creating scenes. But I can't type up my latest scene because I have a sleeping lizard in my sleeve. 😭🥹 15,700 words so far!

I'm glad we're privileged enough that when we lived in this area I eliminated all flood zones from our possible renting locations. Dealing with flooding while also having children or in our case pets would make it all the more stressful. I hope everyone stays safe. Good reptile community there.
Holy hell. Go Now evacuation order issued for Tukwila after the Green River levee breaks. Seattle metro area itself was managing to avoid the worst of the flooding so far, but it looks like our luck is running out...

2.5 mo. and we have a Ruler of the Realm.🎉 If she doesn't want much attention she hangs out in a hide. If I see her moving all about in the open (usually on her log pile or climbing other sticks) she wants out. I open the door, stand with my sleeve along the opening, and wait for her to climb on.🥰

WOW! This ad cuts clear to the bone. 11 years to the day after Sandy Hook massacre... and a day after Brown University shooting and... I lived just 25 miles away, and a few days before a guaranteed next mass shooting in America.

Me noticing one of my holiday light strings isn't on at its scheduled time:

"What's up? Why aren't you on?"
*sees that the outlet timer is set properly, turns it on*
"Looks like you glitched. It's ok, it happens."

I wonder if other species pretend to communicate with stuff.

I felt the same way and now we have 2 small trees just for the lizards to enjoy. I need to get more garland for the green tree, somehow used it all up on the big tree this year.

I adore carpet pythons; they are so gorgeous! Dream snek.

A truly great idea. 10,000 ethical assets freely available.

There’s no excuse for resorting to so-called AI with this and the *many* other assets you can use without resorting to laundered plagiarism.

Support real artists, not con artists.
More coverage of our 10,000 Game Assets Pack, this time on Dexerto. We really do appreciate all the support everyone is giving this - basically it makes the last year of working on it full time worthwhile & spurs us on to create more assets!! www.dexerto.com/gaming/indie... #gamedev #indiedev

I've never had a TikTok but I have access to libraries. It might blow her mind to know that several well researched published books support what's being shared on social media about the genocide in Palestine. It's 2025. We have access to the truth and we share it; they can't hide it anymore.
Hillary Clinton blames TikTok and “totally made up” videos for young people’s views on Israel and Palestine.

She says social media influenced “not just the usual suspects” but also “young Jewish Americans who don’t know the history and don’t understand.”

Do door-to-door "salespeople" not realize how sus they seem when weeks before a major travel holiday they want to give you a free quote in return for a full tour of your doors and windows? Would you like my security codes while we're at it?

Didn't even have a card to give out.🤨⛔️

Hypothetical future where we live in Australia:

Husband- Why do we have cat food and why are you installing a cat door? You're super allergic to cats.

Me- It's not for cats.
I hadn’t seen any lizards bust in from outside to steal cat food in so long that I started thinking perhaps they forgot how. Nope! An old friend from a year ago let itself inside today

Every year around Thanksgiving, I see tons of grad students post heartbreaking messages on social media about how their loved ones don’t understand or support their decision to study what seems like something pointless or silly.

Perhaps my American Scientist essay can help!
