This is South Philly in synecdoche: the oldest pizzeria in Philadelphia, one which still had a pasta dish on the menu named for late Villanova coach Rollie Massimino, has closed after 98 years and sold its building to a successful local Sichuan restaurateur who wants to open another branch.
Marra’s, Philadelphia’s oldest pizzeria, has closed after 98 years on East Passyunk Avenue
The family says it's exploring a new location for Marra's — one with better parking. The building, which the Marras bought in 1927, has been sold after being on the market for several years.
