Dimon on why JPMorgan Chase is not funding WH Ballroom:
We have an issue, which is anything we do, since we do a lot of contracts with governments here and around the world, we have to be very careful how anything is perceived, and also how the next DOJ is going to deal with it.

The death of browsing is part of the reason art is the way it is now. Our opinions are largely fed to us by algorithms. Spending a spare 15 minutes wandering around a bookstore or comic shop or video rental place was how you found stuff you wouldn't ordinarily pick up and thereby expanded your taste
Bookselling is like the most "people go to the store and buy what looks cool to them without a particular agenda" type business left, and your purchases have a huge influence on what is ordered, what is displayed, and what is recommended.

this isn't how it works, president dementia is having a crashout day because he's losing control of both the republican party and his own presidency and he knows it
It should go without saying, but the president has no authority to do this, and anyone reporting the story needs to say as such.

Trump and his administration have so much blood on their hands.
Sarah Beckstrom's ex-boyfriend told NBC News she dreamed of becoming an FBI special agent.

She didn't want to deploy to D.C.

"She hated it. She cried about it."

But she started visiting monuments and museums and started enjoying it.

May she rest in peace.

The slain soldier’s former boyfriend recalled her empathy and generosity. “She doesn’t even have to know you and she’ll do anything for you,” he said.

this is me except with Instagram because I'm too lazy to create a physical scrapbook with pictures of my favorite dead writers and random 19th century paintings interspersed with poetry
i can understand this urge a lot because i have never been one to keep a diary consistently. a lot of things other people use diaries for, i can only get out in conversations with others as audiences

I just read about that creep Forrest Ackerman and what he did to Robert Bloch on his death bed, asking for his last autograph. Thinking about it makes me sick. I do love that Bloch’s wife asked Harlan Ellison to reply to Ackerman; I can only imagine the level of righteous anger in that reply.

I did not expect to read a paragraph of Harlan waxing poetical on horror. I’ve never seen him talk like this about sci-fi…

It's almost Thanksgiving and that's the time for crime novels featuring teenage protagonists in 1984, trying to solve a murder, recover a missing friend and tangling with everyone from school bullies to a brutal Russian assassin. It's not October, but it's my book THAT OCTOBER!
Like a lot of you, hopefully, I'll be spending a lot less with huge corporations during the economic blackout that's covering Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

So here's a couple of good ways to buy my 1984-set high school crime novel THAT OCTOBER from other than the usual suspects. (more)

This is a pretty flawed argument. "You should be grateful that people want your work enough to steal it." Would someone say that to a sculptor or a creative who made material art? I don't think so. It's in vogue now to denigrate written art.
piracy is a completely aspirational problem for any author in america to have and i think anyone trying to stake out an anti-piracy position is a demon full stop

My soon to be 12 year old niece just showed me this animated cartoon she’s really into (she went as one of the characters for Halloween) and it’s pretty cool but I’m like “wow this is a little bleak” and looked it up and apparently it’s based on Harlan Ellison’s “I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream”
