Let's just establish this now so we don't wind up squabbling over terminology afterwords:

If the U.S. initiates a military conflict with Greenland, the U.S. military will succeed in that military conflict.

But it will be wrong (false, untrue) to refer to that success as a "win" or a "victory."

The idea that Mitch McConnell was a successful obstructionist is a pop-culture myth that needs to die. He largely failed; the ACA passed, Obama became a two-term POTUS. Where he DID succeed, it was because he had *bipartisan* aid from the anti-Obama centrist Blue Dog Dems — remember them?

That is a special kind of stupid.

"What did Democrats do about Trump's coup" well hundreds of people went to prison, Trump was impeached, and Trump was indicted but a few corrupt federal judges helped keep him out of prison.

Any other questions?

Ppl like the quoted poster here treating Republicans like a force of nature instead of people making choices they should be held accountable for is a big part of how we've gotten here
The problem with this analogy is that; rather than cockroaches, the Republicans 'in the house' are your roommates. They're real people, with agency and lives.

If elected Dems start from "every last Republican is a traitor and if we get back in power, they'll all hang," we are unlikely to see anything positive happen within the next 4 years.

You don't generally telegraph these things when you need to move your opponents forward one step at a time.

Wow, the people who hated Democrats for over a decade are now creating yet more reasons to hate Democrats, from whole cloth?

You don't say!

Quick reminder that Mike Johnson *immediately* adjourned the House today in order to prevent any Dems from doing *anything* official.
Lol people need to fucking relax

I swear Trump could start a war unilaterally and Bluesky would be more angry about what Hakeem Jefferies and Chuck Schumer have to say about it than the actual war itself.

Yes, Democrats should do 👇💯. Yes, every one should be calling for immediate impeachment & removal.

And, guess what? If every one of them did that, it <still wouldn't happen> until <Congressional Republicans do their damn jobs>. Thune, Johnson, & co. get total free passes every day. It's maddening.
Members of Congress: stop posting online and APPEAR, PHYSICALLY on the steps of the Capitol to decry this unconstitutional violation of domestic & international law. SHOW THE PEOPLE the level of danger we are facing as a country.

People are going to try and lure you into debates about whether Maduro was a good guy or not and the thing is, it doesn’t matter for the purposes of discussing whether violent kidnappings and extrajudicial murders by the US government are ok. No, they aren’t! End of convo.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has stated that the 1918 flu pandemic was caused by a lab virus from vaccine research, a defective influenza vaccine. Let’s analyze what a lie this is. First, in 1918, 107 years ago, virology was in its infancy

This is a great example not just of Nazism being normalized, but of being so removed from the consequences of Nazism that it becomes just a thought exercise. I mean, hey, 20 years ago this avowed antisemite couldn’t even have been part of polite society and look at him now!
Joe Rogan and Shane Gillis on Nick Fuentes running for president one day.

Rogan: “He could probably win in a few years. Listen, he couldn’t have existed before, right? Ten, twenty years ago, couldn’t have existed. Now, super popular. What’s twenty years from now look like?”

I think more people need to ask themselves why the supposedly “smartest people in tech” are trying to convince us being smart and knowing how to think are going to have no value in the future. Its because they don’t want people to be smart or think, not that it isn’t a valuable skill.

honestly, “it’s because they’re still mad about the New Deal” is a pretty good guiding hypothesis for a lot of stuff
The standard story was that 1950s religious revivals were about contrasting America with the godless commies of the USSR, but I found material that hinted at an older well funded campaign that reframed the revival as a corporate pushback against the New Deal.

So I followed that unexpected thread!

We live in a cruel, vicious timeline.

We didn't get here all at once, and we won't get out of it all at once. But we have to start pushing back like we mean it, rather than accepting all the cruelty being inflicted upon us.

Happy Hanukkah to our friends who celebrate. Rachel Posner, a rabbi’s wife in Kiel, Germany, took this photograph in 1931 -- a potent reminder that fascism must be fought in every generation, even if it's wrapped in an American flag and a red hat.

The ACA isn't just "health care for people who don't have a conventional employer." It also disallows something that was incredibly common 20 years ago, which I fear is getting lost to generational memory: insurance companies could deny you health care for essentially any previous health problem.
I'm dubious about Amazon's commitment to keeping pre-existing conditions a thing of the past.
