Hi everyone. Some exciting news. We are hiring an Assistant Professor in Public Policy here at Rockefeller College. We are pretty flexible on topic areas. We have a great team here and Albany is a great place to live. #econsky #academicsky

Our consensus study was released today! So very grateful to have been a part of this and with some of the very best people🩷 (And...here's to a world and future for our kids where these drills are no longer needed).

Overall, school infrastructure quality matters for student health, well-being, and learning.

Our research shows that not all students have access to safe and healthy buildings. . . but there are funding mechanisms available to solve this problem!
lucy-sorensen.bsky.social
We find that:
🔹 Schools serving more students of color have worse building conditions across dimensions.
🔹 These disparities remain even after accounting for poverty, geography, and school type.
🔹 Property tax revenue is the biggest driver of the gap, but state building aid helps narrow the gap.

Schools are increasingly vulnerable to climate change & vital to advancing solutions.

Our synthesis illustrates why efforts to create more resilient schools & a more sustainable future need to be a central focus of education research, policy & practice.

This provocative, data-infused essay by James Wyckoff — edworkingpapers.com/ai25-1197 — serves as a reminder that fully understanding the declines in student achievement requires us to look well before the COVID-19 pandemic.

Urban's data tool is great for this. Here's VA district expenditures and enrollment for 2017-18: educationdata.urban.org/data-explore.... You just need to download and divide expenditures by enrollment.

I’ll be joining several brilliant scholars for a Presidential Session on race, racism, and K-12 school finance on Sat. There’s no path to just school funding without confronting the historical and persistent role of racism. Join us for what will surely be a dynamic and timely conversation. #AERA2025
