Senators--Thune--come to the defense of your colleague and your institution. Now would be a good time.

the phrase "acoustic bike" implies the existence of acoustic bike amplifiers and given everything else we know about the company we have to assume that Yamaha makes one
"Acoustic bike" is when you put a playing card in the frame so the spokes sound like a motorbike.

someone tell the California ACLU who is disproportionately more likely to be killed in traffic accidents including those involving people under the influence
The California ACLU is staunchly opposed to the ignition interlock device program and is a big reason that it has not been expanded. Despite the fact that California heavily subsidizes the cost for low-income drunk drivers, the ACLU says that the program is a form of "racialized wealth extraction."

Broke: quasi-legislative and quasi-judicial agencies can be independent multi-member commissions

Woke: Congress can make every executive department a multi-member commission

Bespoke: the presidency itself should be replaced with a multi-member commission
The conservative justices have their talking point -- what if Congress turned every department into a multimember commission -- and it is totally absurd considering that has never happened under the existing law.

🇺🇸 trifectas get shot at doing something

Obama chose policy (ACA). It didn’t fix the authoritarian problem

Biden chose policy (ARP/IRA). It didn’t fix the authoritarian problem

The platform must be institutional reform next time. Right from the start, as @dhnexon.bsky.social said
If we want to actually be a representative democracy, then the platform needs to be institutional reform. All the Popularism and all the policies follow from that, not the other way around.
- DC/PR/USVI statehood
- Enlarging the House
- MMDs
- New VRA
- Totally revamping SCOTUS: bsky.app/profile/mcop...
- Automatic universal voter registration
- Rewriting the "national emergency" laws: bsky.app/profile/mcop...
- Subordinating the Senate: bsky.app/profile/mcop...
Etc.

My constituent, Wilmer, was mauled by an ICE attack dog despite the fact that, as he has consistently explained, he was not resisting arrest or trying to flee—his wife and young children, all U.S. citizens, were forced to watch helplessly as Wilmer was violently attacked and dragged away.

"I was shooting the remains of the boat, the people just got in the way." Again, worth noting that this was exactly the defense that U-852's captain used in his post-WW2 war crimes trial for the Peleus Incident. He was found guilty and shot.

"Democratic voters have to force their candidates to embrace real, aggressive Supreme Court reform. That means not only coming up with a plan (including, most likely, term limits and court expansion) but being unrestrained in how they talk about these six villains who are destroying our democracy."
Democrats Need to Treat the Supreme Court Like the Villain It Is
The Court is out of control, and we'll never see reform unless we build the case for it. Starting now.

I don’t want to hear any Congressional Dems say they are waiting for Republicans to act. I want Dems to immediately file impeachment articles against Hegseth. And Congress should be able to fire the admiral with a simple majority vote.
🚨🚨🚨This collapses the one 'argument' Hegseth had against it being a war crime:

"The two men killed as they floated holding onto their capsized boat .. DID NOT APPEAR TO HAVE RADIO OR OTHER COMMUNICATIONS DEVICES, the top military official overseeing the strike told lawmakers."

Every Congressperson who does not file impeachment articles ASAP, or even just start talking about it, owns everything that happens to the people Trump targets. Their complicity and enablement of his abuse takes the protection of America away from them.
Trump, continued: "What the Somalian people have done to Minnesota is not even believable. It’s not even believable. And a lot of it starts with the governor. A lot of it starts with Barack HUSSEIN Obama, because that’s when people started coming in... They want to kiss our country good night."

I was at city event getting resident feedback on some planning thing. The sort of thing where people put colored dots on things. All anyone wanted to do was complain about how all the new buildings going up have flat roofs, and flat roofs are ugly, and how can we stop this.
NEW PAPER w/ @cselmendorf.bsky.social & @jkalla.bsky.social:

An under-appreciated reason why voters oppose dense new housing, especially in less-dense neighborhoods: they think it looks ugly and want to prevent that, even in other neighborhoods.

Some of what we think is NIMBYism might not be!
