An incomprehensibly stupid own goal. Healthcare, eldercare, and childcare are about to get a hell of a lot more expensive. And it's going to hit rural areas especially hard.

Hope the racism was worth it!
NEW: President Trump is expanding the previous 19-country travel ban to a whopping 39 countries (plus the Palestinian Authority), and appears to expand a block on legal immigration to now include spouses, children, and parents of U.S. citizens, who were previously exempted.

Yesterday, I took the train from Federal Way to Pioneer Square around 7am and back home around 5:30p. The train was maybe 2/3 full downtown and very empty in Federal Way.
It's pretty crazy that with the flooding and the traffic nightmare in south King County right, the new Link park and rides are still mostly empty

I hate how the National Weather Service is primarily posting life-threatening weather alerts via X for many reasons, but right now mainly because that website is so broken and difficult to follow for logged out users.

I finally got to take the 1 Line from Federal Way to work downtown and it was as wonderful as I hoped it would be when we decided to move there 5 years ago. 😌

I hope the 577/578 routes remain frequent, but light rail > car/bus commute on I-5, especially in the dark and rain, every day.

The person who was killed last night crossing Beacon Ave on a bike by a hit-and-run driver was named Allie. They were described as a "hard-core cyclist."

The vigil/protest is expected to take over Beacon and Stevens until midnight, if SPD lets that happen.

This NYT story failed the reader by not digging deeper. One subject dropped out of college after one year (five years ago) and lists "Windows" as his skillset. Story should be: young conservatives who blame immigrants for their personal failures and whose lives won't be improved w/ fewer immigrants

Kudos to @sound-transit.bsky.social for such a fun and well planned Federal Way opening event.
It’s been one week since the 1 Line extension to Federal Way opened!

If you joined us for opening day — or even if you couldn’t make it — you’re invited to take our post-event survey. We’d love your feedback on how we did, and how we can make the next opening even better. https://ow.ly/zjre50XIFTU

Something was “upgraded” at Valley Communication’s Dispatch Center, and ever since, all agencies dispatched through them have disappeared from @pulsepoint.bsky.social.

For a couple weeks, a message was up saying it was being worked on, but now there’s nothing. Big bummer if this access goes away. ☹️

This entire grift relies on convincing people that they don't know how to do the things they have always known how to do, and ironically, if it works, we will, in a very short amount of time, forget how to do all the things we have always known how to do.

I'll say again: we are oddly selective about the government services about which we will say, they operate at a loss.

We say Amtrak and the post office "lose money" but we never say highways, the court system, the Pentagon, etc lose money
The USPS posting a NINE BILLION DOLLAR LOSS!!! sounds terrible. Certainly worse than if you said "USPS costs thirty dollars per person per year" even though that means the same thing and more accurately describes a government service

I walked across this again and can’t imagine feeling safe taking my young kids across (let alone myself) having to wait in the middle of six lanes of speeding drivers with little to no protection other than the curb edge and beg button pole.
This new signal gets an F from me. It has a zig zag pattern, the time to walk is around 10 seconds, and you have to wait TWO LIGHT cycles with a pause in the median to fully cross.

Can’t make the drivers wait.

I really can't emphasize enough that if you care about local politics, all you gotta do is show up. Just a regular schmegular person showing up. Literally just show up consistently in person and within a remarkably short amount of time, you will have a shocking amount of influence.

“The bedroom communities of Federal Way and Lynnwood appear to be engaging in “field of dreams” wishcasting hoping ‘if you name it, they will come.’

Back in reality, giving a freeway-adjacent patch of strip malls the name “downtown” or “city center” has yet to summon a downtown in these cities.”

I’ll collect my bet winnings. Federal Way says they will have it operating by tomorrow AM.

Also, this is the first new signal city-wide since 2016! Almost 10 years without a new traffic signal.
