Jesus Christ I had to look up if this was actually a podium she spoke in front of because I honestly could not believe they would be this incredibly bold. I thought it would be AI or photoshop or something. unfortunately it is real.
This slogan adopted by Kristi Noem, "One of Ours, All of Yours," is taken from the Nazis, who retaliated for the killing of an SS officer by murdering all the inhabitants of the Czech village of Lidice, apparently none of whom had anything to do with it, and razing the village to the ground.

Hello Tim Cook I worked at Tumblr when you gave us 48 hours to get rid of all the consenting, adult boobs. Up all night at your whim, out of the blue. But you're still cool with Twitter and its CSAM and revenge porn and whatever the fuck this is? Why do you even HAVE guidelines?
Previously, several of these companies, like Apple, IBM, and Disney, have paused advertising on X in response to antisemitic content. But antisemitism on X never slowed, sexual abuse imagery increased, and all of these companies quietly resumed advertising anyways.

Why isn't there a bigger Grok boycott?
Advertisers, politicians, and investors are still all-in on X, despite a sexual abuse crisis.

Ongoing and obvious reminder that firing chemical weapons directly at people's heads like this *is* deadly force.

this system is fucking atrocious, it's actually a bunch of interconnected systems of power and it took 600 years for these people to get this entrenched and powerful

and that's with constant opposition in one form or another

it's a generational struggle you just need to stay plugged in and work

oldhead advice from an oldhead.

every couple years, newcomers to the movement think "THIS is finally it, the moment when the dam breaks and the whole system is overthrown"

and when it doesn't happen they lose patience and get disillusioned and drop out of movement work

gotta build for long term

Two queer women with a 6 year old in school today stopped to film ICE and for their bravery ICE agents murdered one before the other’s eyes. The grief in the survivor’s voice is a knife to the gut. Destroying people and their bonds is what ICE has always done.
NEWS: In a heartbreaking video, after ICE shot and killed a woman in Minneapolis, a woman who was in the same SUV cries out: “They killed my wife. I don’t know what to do."

“We stopped to videotape, and they shot her in the head,” the distraught woman sobs.

you don't need "the queer community" to do this, any more than you'd need a Nation to have a global neighbourhood, or a God to have a sense of moral reasoning. in fact, it is only through the collective process of community building on trust, friendship, and solidarity that "community" can exist.

your responsibility to others, should you assert yourself as a politicized subject, is a responsibility to be just and kind to the struggles of the oppressed regardless of whether you share some "nations" or "communities" or "scenes" with them or not, even if you are fundamentally nomadic

the communities formed out of the 20th century gay lib movements and aids activism were ones formed out of actual material struggle & even then were often fragmented - sylvia rivera gave her famous speech for a reason! there is no "natural solidarity" along sexuality, only politics

scathing but true. "queer community" as it is currently used on en-net mostly just means either an abstract discourse-subject not unlike a "Nation" or a college campus space framework. there are currently many *queer subcultures* or *scenes*. "community" does not yet exist, it must be made first

it is 2006. i am reading thucydides. i am distressingly aware that my incredibly basic knowledge of military history apparently makes me more clever about this than the people running the country

it is 2026. people are referencing thucydides...
People who fancy quoting the Melian Dialogue ("the strong do what they can and the weak suffer what they must") ignore the fact that Thucydides was clearly portraying this as the kind of hubris that squandered Athens' primacy and paved the way for a devastating peer war that it ultimately lost.

For everyone saying the solution is just to get off Twitter/X—that’s not going to cut it. This problem preceded Grok, it preceded Twitter, it preceded the internet itself. It will outlast the AI boom. It’s a problem of patriarchy, which is reinforced with violence.

The end goal of Grok sexual harassment is to make women afraid to be visible. It’s a punishment for daring to exist in a way the perpetrators can’t control. There’s no one solution to this, because the problem isn’t just technological. It’s cultural. It’s misogyny. This is just one expression of it.

Bluesky, of course, is trying its kinder social media approach by being simultaneously overbearing on some very specific things and totally ignoring others, which is why I don't really think it's going to turn out much different here than elsewhere.

I don't think social media companies *want* to functionally moderate their sites, partly for cost reasons and partly for ideology, but the result is going to be the same: people are going to drift away from social media because it's both dangerous and unpleasant to be on.

LRT: the other thing that's been occurring to me lately is that so much of social media is deliberately unmoderated, maybe unmoderatable at commercial scale, and the extensive targeted harrassment we're seeing lately is probably the death knell of social media writ large if that doesn't change.
