I am extremely confused as to why the UK government and police are saying Grok’s mass-scale CSAM generation is an issue for Ofcom.

This isn’t about X failing to moderate CSAM, which is an Online Safety Act issue. It is about the company and its technology being actively involved in its generation.

It’s like if they’d unveiled Ceefax and it did pure evil, and the government said, “Well, what can we do? It’s all in coloured blocks. Laws don’t apply.”

One the one hand, you have a large and successful creative sector worth billions. On the other, the vague promise of growth offered by pod people intent on cooking the planet so you can make porn with Bagpuss and Zippy from Rainbow. It's a tough choice, I get it.

The calls from America this weekend to "abolish the EU" are for one simple reason: the EU is the only thing that can keep European nation-states from becoming Russian or American vassals.
The US has declared rhetorical war on the EU
The calls from America this weekend to destroy the EU are revealing. They hate the union because it's the only thing that can keep European countries from being Russian or American vassals.

Donald Trump is a Kremlin stooge who wants to sell out Ukraine and the rest of Europe to Putin. We can't let that happen.

Starmer should seize frozen Russian assets in this country - today - and convince Merz and Macron to do the same.

A great way to fight back against AI taking away work from creatives is to buy art by actual humans.

Here I am in 2020 in the flimsiest, most pitful PPE - like so many other NHS staff, some of whom died from the Covid they caught in their hospitals.

Tory peer Michelle Mone - who today lost her legal case & must repay the govt £122m - dares to claim she’s been ‘scapegoated’.

What, Michelle? 🧵

There’s another timeline where the Guardian supported me, doubled down on the investigation & I look 5 years younger ..

I don’t want to be too shrill about this but I think the BBC, ITV and Sky have disgraced themselves in their coverage of the anti-refugee protests. A massive failure of judgement. But now we know the next time a progressive protest “isn’t news” that it’s nothing to do with numbers

The people assuring us that the government can deploy AI to transform government are the same people regularly caught using Excel for jobs for which it is manifestly not intended
Who built a system where someone can export a list of Taliban murder targets into excel on a computer with internet access.
Maybe I've missed this. But "a soldier sent an email" is not going to cut it as an explanation of how this happened. I'm not saying name-and-shame. But the public are owed a proper explanation. Continuing obfuscation just compounds this.

An alert to all creatives using #WeTransfer. Basically, stop immediately! As of August, they will begin scraping everything you send for AI purposes (see the new paragraph in their Terms and Conditions below).

If, like me, you’re a voice artist, they’ll clone your voice. Avoid at all costs.

That’s like hiring a cow to wire your house and thinking “this saved me a fortune!”
