Louisiana has to build three new natural gas power plants to accommodate the "AI" data center that Meta just crammed through because said center will use *Three Times* as much electricity (and, thus, attendant resources) as the *Entire City Of New Orleans*, every year.

Y'all this isn't sustainable.
La. regulators approve Entergy power plants for Meta’s AI data center
Louisiana Public Service Commissioners voted four to one to approve Entergy’s three new gas plants to power Meta’s largest-ever data center.

My semi-regular reminder of a really important reality about cities, density, services and taxes.

Any questions?

10/10 for me but some of them required a pretty careful look. The analysis of what to look for in each was useful, though there’s no guarantees the “tells” will persist as the image generator algorithms improve, and even now not all generated images have them.

I’m sorry you’re having one of those days. I know the feeling.

Take a moment and think of a person you’d give anything to protect. That person, those people, are your point.

Today, take care of yourself for them. Love yourself so you can love them. One day, and then another day, and then—
@theferocity.bsky.social Saeed, may I trouble you for some pearls of wisdom? I am feeling a great amount of despair today. Very what’s the point. I’m so over being ruled by classist elites who are more interested in filling their coffers than do anything to help us.

If you're worried about aviation safety, these NOAA/NWS cuts are just as alarming as anything happening at FAA.
I have written a short statement responding to mass firings today of #NOAA / National Weather Service (#NWS) staff (which were concentrated among recent hires as well as highly experienced staff who had recently been promoted). Please see below screenshot & below for full text.

Your regular reminder that the US air & water pollution laws passed in the 60s & 70s -- and the elaborate federal bureaucracy created to administer them -- constitute one of the most successful gov't interventions in history. WILDLY successful. The envy of the world.

Babes, don't use allonormativiry or amanormativity as your baseline. Be joyous in your queerness. Asexuality and aromanticism are so freeing. Define yourself as you see fit, not how some bigot perceives you.
It pains me how many ace and aro people defend the idea that some people are “normal” and we aren’t.

Internalized aphobia is something I run into far too much.
