It is actually a zero sum mentality. Every dollar in someone else's pocket is a dollar they could have. That's all it is. In my field there are actual real use cases for AI or genAI that would help but there is no push to develop it because there's no money in developing it.
That any labor gets paid, in this case teachers, is the exact problem in their eyes, though. Why pay a teacher a barely livable wage when you can pay billions for a computer to do a crappy job?
There isn't a single problem "solved" by edtech that couldn't be fixed with smaller classes led by well-paid teachers given real academic freedom

This is me showing my age as a webcomic granny, but I still believe that being a digital homeowner and owning your own webcomic site + supporting each other via web rings and collectives is the best way to go.

Back in high school me and like two friends went to see Unleashed (with Jet Li) and Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith had just come out so NO ONE ELSE was in our theater and we could comment on the movie and have loud reactions. It was awesome.

Mine also include The Matrix, Blair Witch, and being way too stoned in Belgium when Fellowship of the Ring was sold out so we sat in the back row for Mulholland Drive instead.

It was hands-down one of the most memorable theater-going experiences I can remember, a collective 30-minute butt-clench/armrest-grab for the final climb. And we knew he lived! Wild.
