“Doomerism” is when you say “holy shit things are going to get bad and there’s nothing we can do.” It’s not when you say “holy shit things are going to get bad and we better get prepared for that”.

I've been having mixed feelings about this all day, because the rest of the order is powerful and righteous, but a sitting judge signing off any order (let alone a fiery defense of the Constitutional order, which includes judicial non-endorsement of religion) with Bible verses is Bad, Actually.
Judge Biery signed the order with a photo of Liam and two bible verses: The first is "But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven." The second is simply "Jesus wept."

Astonishing thing for a judge to do.

The headline is misleading. He actually proposed making legislators subject to breathalyzer tests on an accusation.

A Republican senator has filed legislation to bar lawmakers from drinking alcohol on the job after he accused some of them of being drunk while taking critical votes.

I am not going to say it needs to be a long time, but it cannot be zero.

The unspoken assumption here is that AI systems (LLMs specifically) actually have some real benefit.

I am not convinced they do. My experience is that they FEEL like they help without actually helping.
it’s been said before but ceding “ai” to the other side would be one of the most atrocious tactical errors imaginable

I’m sorry but as someone who has a book and a PhD on this exact thing, this is just straight up not true. The majority of Nazis discovered living abroad (particularly in the US, Australia, and UK) faced almost no legal consequences beyond the occasional loss of citizenship.
This is essentially what governments did in the late 1900s and early 2000s with respect to Nazis. Whether you were a lowly concentration camp guard or in Hitler's inner circle, if there was evidence you were a Nazi, it was straight to jail with your walker.

It worked.
Maybe instead of identifying specific ICE agents who do particularly heinous things, we could just penalize everyone who was on payroll at the agency starting by a certain date.

I 100% agree with this.

To anyone outside the US that sees this: We need to face some harsh truths as a nation. We need your honesty more than we need kind words.
I have one request for everyone outside the United States. Stop being polite to us Americans. Tell us what you really think.

The company I tutor with (gig economy "employer") excitedly advertised to me that I can tutor in new topics like "vibe coding", "Gemini", and "ChatGPT".

I think giving my honest opinion on this would violate the "non-disparagement" clause in my contract, so I will just leave that here.

I never realized before the crisis in Minnesota just how bad the political instincts of the left tend to be.

So many are calling for violent revolution and chastising Gov. Walz for saying "Don't do that."

Guys, think two steps ahead and imagine how bad things can get.

It isn't much, but at this point I don't know what else I can do.

So BlueSky, do you have any suggestions?
