The rhetoric today is nearly indistinguishable from Know-Nothing rhetoric about the Irish, the Italians, and the Jews.
Fox News' Will Cain: "I’m sure there are very honorable law-abiding upstanding citizens and contributors from the Somali community here in the United States, BUT..."

He goes on to say "we aren’t going to pretend here that all cultures are of equal value or the same."

Oh weird, when you fight back you might win? Does this work better than preemptively surrendering? Asking for, um, all of society.

Steve Jobs said they would redesign cities around them.
Younger people who didn't witness it cannot fathom the hype around the Segway. Every news station agreed it would revolutionize the entire social fabric of the Earth. That all future humans would divide history between the savage days of the past, and the soon to be new era of zoom zoom scoot scoot.

Everyone in Chicago needs to read this AND TAKE ACTION. Everyone else should read this and ask what's happening where you are with your public library systems.
Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson has proposed disastrous cuts to our city's libraries while setting aside $5M for a ShotSpotter replacement. As library associate Sara Heymann told me, “Libraries embody everything we need to fight back against fascism.” My piece on what’s at stake and how to fight back:
You Can’t Fight Fascism While Defunding Libraries

This is what I expect from my representatives, and I'm thankful that Molly is our councilmember.
Our city says loudly and often that we stand with immigrants, peaceful protestors, and everybody who is fighting for a better world. Every elected official in our city has an obligation to make that more true than it was today.

I really really really want a reporter to ask Target: "It seems like the company needs all the help it can get right now. Have you discussed admitting publicly you made a mistake on the DEI retreat and that it has been an unnecessary drag?"
ALSO, today’s 1,200 word front page story by the Strib’s retail reporter (the Strib doesn’t have a labor reporter) devotes exactly one sentence to Target’s blunders, implying that the boycott was brief.

I wonder whether the retail reporter ever reads the letters to the editor; this one ran on Sat.

We should develop and fund a plan to reconstruct this predictably dangerous street with traffic calming measures, maybe throw in a nicer bike trail while we’re at it.

This isn’t normal.
