I have learned to accept that, in the present moment at least, things are exactly as they are meant to be, and although I cannot control the future any more than I could control the wind and the weather, I can manage it and influence it in a positive way.

As an African, I don't celebrate "independence day" because when I look around Africa, I see no independence. The so-called "independence" was basically western imperialists handing power over to the local capitalist ruling classes, so both parties can continue exploiting working class Africans.
A common thing I often hear from fellow non-westerners, is how our (non-western) countries 'won' independence from (white western) colonial powers. The so-called "independence day" is celebrated as some sorta triumph. But as Marxists, we have to look deeper. What was actually 'won', and by whom?
