Having been told by a family member not to be histrionic over some of this stuff, I feel this article down to my bones.
Trying to forecast the future is prone to uncertainty, though I am probably closer to the alarmist end of the spectrum.
This article is most useful in highlighting the dismissals of such warnings. Big question is why? Normalcy bias? Not being vulnerable?

The Americans Who Saw All This Coming—but Were Ignored and Maligned
Call them the Cassandras: the people—mostly not white and male—who smelled the fascism all over Trump from jump street. Why were they “alarmists,” and how did “anti-alarmism” become cool?

This is fucking grim. Somebody invented a white guy, an "IT professional" named Edward Crabtree, who stopped the Bondi shooting and spread it all over the internet, which was picked up by AI agents and slop aggregation sites.

The real hero is a fruit stand owner named Ahmed el Ahmed.

What a world to go to bed thinking about one mass shooting and wake up to news of another, a targeted hate crime, at a Hanukkah celebration in Sydney. And also in the video where an actual hero, Ahmed al Ahmed chooses not to kill one of the terrorists.

Genuinely gave me chills when he talked about his grandkids. If you wake up guys like this to this level of rage, well, you’re losing this war.
I genuinely don't know if this is a "Minnesotan" thing or an "old guy of a certain age" thing but in case it's Minnesotan and people need an anger translator: this guy is so angry he could just about set something on fire with his mind.

We already told the European family not to come here—this cements it.

And if my husband is forced to pick between his passports….welp.

She’s right. Disgraceful.
HOPE WALZ: “What world are we f*cking living in? I draw the line at Gus. You people are f*cking disgraceful.”

She says MAGA loyalists are now driving by their home and yelling “R*tard!” at her family and her special needs brother after Trump called GovTimWalz the R word.

My husband’s naturalization ceremony was one of the most moving things I’ve seen. It made me proud to be an American in a different way. We had a family party after to celebrate. It’s a big fucking deal. So cruel.
If you've ever been to a naturalization ceremony, you know they're filled with people whose palpable love of this country is twenty times stronger than the pinched "patriotism" of any native-born MAGA chud.

Just unspeakable assholery.

On this Thanksgiving Eve, I am grateful for this writer and this thread in particular. Jim!
THREAD.

3 years ago, with no warning, a brilliant orange farm cat wandered over from the draughty barn where he had been living, in rural Cornwall, and decided he wanted to live with us instead.

We decided to call him Jim.

This is the first photo I took of him, on that night: December 1st, 2022.

Quite a metaphor. 👀

"The blaze [sent] panicked delegates racing to evacuate...rain from a torrential downpour leaked into the meeting spaces...There were complaints about food shortages, & the air-conditioning struggled to keep up with the high heat..."

I enjoyed learning this.
When you’re sitting in a jazz bar in NOLA and it occurs to you to wonder who wrote “Tea For Two” and it turns out it was a superstar composer of the 1920s who was also an incredibly prolific alcoholic and horndog who died of tuberculosis before he turned fifty and whose photo is utter perfection.
