While obviously Lammy's proposal of scrapping many jury trials is getting the headlines, it seems odd how little attention his proposal to scrap the automatic right to appeal is getting. That seems like quite a big thing to be honest, especially for poorer and more marginalised defendants. #r4today

I see some politicians from English parties are still espousing trickle down economics as a justification for maintaining high levels of inequality.

Even if you just read the introductory section, read Picketty's 𝘊𝘢𝘱𝘪𝘵𝘢𝘭 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘛𝘸𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘺-𝘍𝘪𝘳𝘴𝘵 𝘊𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘺 if you want this theory comprehensively junked.

The UK government’s budget is simply managing decline.

The budget does little to improve living standards or facilitate sustained economic growth.

Can't grow economy by hiking taxes on low/middle income families.

Whatever happened to taxing the rich?

Today marks one year of the daily, uninterrupted #GeorgiaProtests.

I took these photos on November 28th. I still remember the huge, furious crowd that gathered instantly—no invitation, no organizer needed—after Kobakhidze announced Georgia would suspend its EU accession.

We stood there peacefully. Out of nowhere, GD unleashed violent crackdowns: tear gas, water cannons, pepper spray.

The crowd returned the next day. And the next. GD switched to mass arrests. Hundreds were rounded up, beaten in specially designed minibuses, and more than 300 ended up in hospitals.

When GD realized that every crackdown only produced bigger crowds, they paused, hoping the protests would fade on their own. They didn’t. One year later, the movement is alive and determined.

But the repression has evolved.
