Old enough to remember:

Use it up, wear it out
Make it do, or do without
If a phone still works fine, it’s not “device hoarding” to keep using it. It’s common sense.

Loving Spouse is now making apologies to our cats every time he passes them by...

because they got a LOT of turkey from us in the kitchen, as we were cleaning the carcass and starting soup stock.

Really can’t come up with a better summation of the economy than companies arguing that it isn’t illegal to break the law when you use tech
BREAKING: RealPage is suing New York, challenging a new state law that bans landlords from using algorithms to set rents.

RealPage claims that its software, which landlords have used to collude on rents, is protected by the First Amendment.

Thread.
"Customs duty will now be charged on all parcels." The policy of holding parcels hostage for duty and an arbitrary "admin charge" is already a state-sponsored scam. This is just going to cut the UK off even further from online business, and other countries will want to reciprocate, hurting exports.

Oh hey Noreen was back for all of 120 seconds and she did nothing but follow some of the people that reskeet her, and and then Bluesky moderation went "actually, stay gone."

Cool, cool, very cool.
Of course Noreen gets marked as spam. Of course. Of course.

Can we help a desperate mother out at all with securing housing?

You know the drill. Donate only if you can. Spread the word if you cannot. #GazaAid 🍉

The problem with ICE is not that it's targeting people who aren't criminals. The problem with ICE is that it's an unaccountable secret deportation police. It cannot be reformed under a better president. It can be made less terrible, but the instrument of repression remains for the next tyrant.

My book is about the past obsessions with the Roman empire that shaped the world today:
- why we think of Rome a certain way,
- why it matters,
- and the many interpretations of Rome we dismiss.

It's basically a v fun history of (a lot of) Afro-Eurasia. Buy it here!

Excellent, honest thread on the reality of being a writer today.
I'm not the only author I know who has a huge surfeit of ideas for books that we would love to write and send out into the world if only we had the time to write them.

People are justifying making healthcare more expensive for those who are sick and/or make “poor” lifestyle choices.

They’re missing the point.

Healthcare is a right.

It’s one thing to charge more for life insurance, but people shouldn’t PAY for healthcare.

Medicare for all.

We did it with the help of you folks & the very last follow by Erin Swartz, @bouzannesnaques.bsky.social,

Mahalo nui loa, thank you very much, to everyone who follows us in our mission of supporting our national park partners in Hawaiʻi & American Samoa!🫶
Isn't the #Brockenspectre phenomenon the most mindblowing visual experience? It is basically a fully circular cloudbow & it happens often at the summit of #Haleakalā Volcano. 🌤️🌈

If you appreciate our national parks content, let your people know & help us boost up to the 4300 follower level! Mahalo!

We have a “poverty trap” and it’s driving the destruction of social cohesion.

The “poverty line” is’t 35,000, it’s $150,000, and making more than one, and less than the other is worse than being “poor”.

Which is why the rage.

grease floats.

when it flows in sewage and into our plants, it thickens as temps fall, separating in our settling tanks.

the churning water forms grease globs that build like snowballs, and operators remove them so they don’t clog the process.

listen. don’t pour grease down your drains.
