I've been on a Roman history kick and does anyone know why we anglicize "Gnaeus Pompeius Magnus" as "Pompey"? The -ey suffix sounds so goofy, it makes it sounds like he was a little guy of some kind. And Pompeius is basically the same word as Pompeii which everyone knows/can say.
