At this point a shut down is the best option. Total resistance to everything they're trying to impose on us. This isn't democracy and the Democratic reps need to show they're willingness to go all in with the resistance.

Of the 4000 researchers at NIH, only 20% are tenured. They’re going to fire all the rest as their contracts come up for renewal, absolutely decimating research at the NIH. This is catastrophic, not just for Americans, but for the whole world.

My fellow historian of early America, and fellow student of the very conservative historian Gordon Wood, wrote a very sober piece recently that came to a similar conclusion. It's truly crazy-making how many of our fellow Americans look upon what's happening as if it's totally normal.
The question I am really struggling with right now is:
What is "law & order" and the entire American constitutional order *for* if it isn't a Go Directly to Jail card for guys like Donald Trump and Elon Musk for doing *exactly* what they're doing right now?
