The core problem appears to be that the NYT decided to double down on "we must be perceived as objective" rather than "we must report the truth."

Is it inefficient to design a bridge to hold more weight than it's rated for? Is it inefficient to design your plumbing to withstand unexpected abuses? People who insist that government be maximally "efficient" do not appreciate why we have government at all
Nobody likes waste. But what a lot of people don’t realize is that, in many ways, government is *designed* to be inefficient. It’s structured with redundancy and complexity both for audit and control purposes and because it tries to satisfy multiple competing societal goals. 1/2
btw i dont think anybody is arguing that we should cut waste what is being argued by sane ppl is that what elon trump and the gop are doing isnt that they are cutting things they dont like arbitrarily without any oversight or ya know legally

I think deep down Eric Adams probably knows what due process is and could recognize the differences between Khalil’s treatment and his own, but his thought process is so cooked by egocentrism that none of those gears kick in.
Then the mayor says the following, re: Khalil: "What I'm finding surprising is the level of support you're all displaying, but I didn't see that support for me"

a maximalist strategy of opposition against every nominee as unqualified would have stood a better chance of creating the kind of public outrage that might have led to more republican defections, but i'm sure the imaginary family that chuck schumer relies on to guide his decisions disagreed
Schumer's strategy of allowing/encouraging Dems to vote for the "normal" nominees in order to try and peel off Republican defections to block Hegseth/RFK/Gabbard appears to have completely failed.
It appears there is little to no resistance from Senate Republicans to the nomination of RFK Jr. as HHS Secretary
