Great thread. I have not read this book but do read a lot of romance and my hot reader and personal take is many people are completely disassociated from human interaction. They are living beings but living in phones, have no worldly experiences that are for singular joy and not content and 1/
Y'all this past week I've seen some baffling takes on Heated Rivalry by people who have zero knowledge or enjoyment of romance novels, romance narratives, or sex scenes as a storytelling device. "Uh where's the romance? Why are they boning so much???"

When the World Cup draw takes place today, Donald Trump will take centre stage.

No American president has taken such an interest in soccer and his relationship with FIFA has never been closer.

Why does Trump like soccer so much? And what does the relationship mean for the sport?

One morning I’ll get up, do my 12 minutes of doom and gloom scroll
and learn nothing batshit has happened since I last felt overwhelming rage. Today is still not that day. What are we doing here?* We’re sick. (And not in a fun way).

*the anti trust bit is hilarious.
Netflix has won the bidding war to purchase Warner Bros. Discovery.

The sale is not yet finalized, as the U.S. Department of Justice could also interfere due to anti-trust concerns.

I saw a meme last night about a generational divide marker of folks who cannot sit through videos and want the words typed out because they read faster than they can watch a video and I felt that deep in my heart. I'm happy for folks who love video, but I hate them. Give me text. Let me read.

The best thing I do now is not be on here for longer than 12 minutes at a time. The news is deranged. People are entirely unwell. We're all scrambled. Getting off socials is the only solution. I'm too old now. I have redoubled my efforts to English cottage my house. I am happier. You will be too.

We can talk about the problematic exhalation of the Kennedy’s from a sociological historical place and agree that RFK should go no where for the rest of his life w/o being shamed. By his own admission ppl like his cousin simply didn’t do enough to prevent their cancer. She’s 35. May he rot in hell.

Self: Well, let's quickly browse the news on lunch break and then log off.

My eyes: Sight was a mistake.

My brain: No, comprehension was.

My soul: Oh, for fucks sake.

My stomach: Did you forget mayo on this sammich?

I have lived a good decent amount now. I, a nerd, devoured The New Yorker, Vanity Fair, Newsweek, Maclean’s, and 80s Vogue as soon I had pocket $ to buy them. And when I say the world is more amoral, more disgusting AND more stupid than I can recall, it is not hyperbolic. I wish.
Trump suggests Khashoggi had it coming: "You're mentioning someone that was extremely controversial. A lot of people didn't like that gentleman that you're talking about. Whether you like him or didn't like him, things happen. But he knew nothing about it. You don't have to embarrass our guest."

I think Ford possibly blundered into a good thing: forcing Mark Carney to see there is simply no deal to be had with Trump, and to get us pivoting away from the US with more seriousness, urgency, and comprehensiveness than whatever the hell he's been doing.
