In my journalism degree we got taught there were three reasons to do verbatim quotes like this:

1. Journalistic laziness
2. Filling column inches
3. Astonishing and unexpected insight from your subject which can only be communicated through straight transcript

it’s 3 maybe four times a decade
Oh my god in the scenes where she interviews Trump she just quotes him in full verbatim. Why would you include this in your book?!

She's allegedly this master of working high-level sources but she lets him filibuster for minutes on end. The interview produces nothing.

Stuck on this gutting sentence on the Women’s Institute decision. For young people it’s watching the world close to them before they’ve had a shot at life, for older women it’s watching half a century of progress vanish. Either way it’s grossly, unbearably cruel.

The reason it’s so revolting to see what’s happening in the Uk right now is that its the state sanctioning and now *enforcing* vile, naked bigotry of the kind we kind of thought we’d pushed out of polite society.
must emphasize again that the government and courts have not only attacked trans rights built in the last 15 years and that were *explicitly envisaged as part of the Equality Act they are using to attack them* but forcing a rollback of *decades-old* policies by individual groups.

City: No, we'll lose parking spots.

You want to live in a world where rich losers and ignorant parents can choose which women are good, and which are bad?

Well then make sure to carve the names of the women and girls you’re killing into your walls so you have to see them every day of your life.

An issue we're seeing at all levels of university is that many students are simply refusing to do *anything*. They aren't reading the syllabus, aren't following assignment guidelines, aren't engaging with material, ignoring deadlines. And this might seem like old news, but it truly has ramped up.
