One thing I wish people wouldn’t do when discussing trans equality in sports is resort to describing gender as an “arbitrary” category of difference in the vein of height or shoe size. People do not experience their identities as arbitrary facts about themselves!

Maybe even more to the point, if this is an issue (and frankly, to a lot of people, it is), it’s one where the status quo ante actually has worked quite well for a long time.
this is very much not the core of the issue. we tolerate all sorts of biological advantages and disadvantages in sports. the real fundamental question here is: why is this one different than the others?

Although we no longer have a Fit, (I was willing to trade the absurd cargo space for a bit more comfort and features), I can’t really argue with this. Plus the cargo space will absolutely ruin you for other compact cars. You need a midsize+ SUV to carry the same volume of stuff. And great on ICE!
The Fit is pound for pound the best car made in the last 20 years. There are cheaper cars, there are nicer cars, & there are more efficient cars, but as a cheap & cheerful hatchback that depends on low weight to delight, few cars compare, & none are as practical & fun
You guys have no idea how good this car is for what we’re doing. You can lurk in alleys or behind parked SUVs. It drives like a go-cart. You’re three feet off the ground with exceptional visibility so I can pull snap u-turns or cut behind convoys

It’s so hard to fathom how vile these people are, that it’s not enough for them to have murdered this woman’s wife. Just astounding depravity.
This is appalling: Top DOJ officials are actively pushing for a criminal investigation into the widow of Renee Good, leading prosecutors to quit en masse, NYT is reporting.

Who in the White House ordered DOJ to do this? That's the next thing to establish.

Addendum: I don’t know what my club is going to do with our events. I’m on our leadership team this year and I’m strongly encouraging us to seek legal advice on whether sanctioning via USAC exposes us to liability under Massachusetts law. Maybe it doesn’t. But we don’t *know.*
Clubs and promoters running races in jurisdictions with anti-discrimination laws protecting trans rights should consider this potential exposure as well! This is a serious problem with USAC knuckling under to Trump’s illegal assertion of authority here, exposing members to legal risk themselves.

Really proud of CRCA for leading the way in rejecting USA Cycling Policy VII (the trans racing ban) and sanctioning through NABRA. Notably, CRCA is concerned that sanctioning through USAC would expose them to anti-discrimination lawsuits under NY law. (1/2) www.crca.net/crca-news/20...

The total capture of the DOJ, seemingly with very little pushback or resistance, is one of the most striking examples of the capitulation of American elites in the face of authoritarianism. It’s been less than a year, and federal prosecutions or investigations are already completely discredited.
This is just one more example of a much broader pattern: The Department of Justice targeting Trump's political enemies with made-up accusations of wrong-doing.

Really want to emphasize this. Don't use shit like LAW or milk in your eyes. If you don't know what LAW is, great, don't bother. I've worked in chemistry labs and production floors most of my adult life, including with lachrymators and irritants. Use water. Just water. That's it.
Hey, you! :)

Here: activisthandbook.org/wellbeing/ri..., has a link to a 56-pg field guide. And also, a giant freaking 486-pg book for medics.

Short one is closer to what you want. Relevant bit for pepper spray ⬇️

I’m honestly open to law changes if there’s evidence they won’t negatively impact public safety. The way these questions implied Mass is an out-of-touch outlier pissed me off, though, and I let them have it.

This is like when I’m frustrated in an argument with my kid and threatening her with increasingly lengthy screen time bans: it’s not doable and even if it was, it’ll kill you.
Vance's response to ice murdering a woman & attacking a high school was that ice has "absolute immunity", and now he says that ice will begin "door to door investigations to check people's citizenship".

We are in an unprecedented moment. ICE is being directed to act this way, while top federal officials are stating overt lies before any investigation has even begun.

When agencies police their own misconduct, trust collapses. That’s why Minnesota state investigators must be involved.
Ellison: "State authorities can investigate anyway. We don't need their authority. It's at least arguable that there's a violation of MN statues here. All of them depend on an investigation though. And the federal govt can't stop MN from doing it's own, but I would hope it wouldn't come to that."

like really if MN decides to do nothing here in terms of investigations then you no longer have a state outlet for your grievances and people will take things into their own hands.

we've seen this before! in the exact same city!

Right. I get that confrontation is scary. But ICE just killed one of your citizens. The federal government has expressly declared its intent to cover it up. They are signaling loud and clear that they support ICE and other federal agents doing more killing. The war IS HERE, man! You have to act!
Walz seems like a good man, and he's very good at tearfully wringing his hands in front of a microphone. But as long as he chooses to use exactly none of the power and authority he has as a governor, he's just a walking embodiment of a Very Concerned Letter.
Walz is broken but he was never cut out for this level of instititional conflict.
