Maybe I’m exaggerating but I feel like the current culture of entertainment being made for shareholders who are unwilling to take any “risks” has made it so a lot of series are unwilling to commit to characters dying. It sucks to have impactful death scenes undone because “the line must go up”.

I think it more stems from the long streak of "stakes means death"
Where for the longest time people felt like killing a character was the highest form of stakes possible. But like any other trope, do it too much and it looses value. 1/2

Once again, my modest belief is that in the context of age ratings, a product should get a gambling stamp (and an automatic 18+ rating and other legal restrictions that pertain to gambling) if it features real (microtransaction) money to random chance pipelines.
They gave Balatro an 18+ only rating because it had poker cards in it.
Disney Solitaire has literal actual real money gambling with dark pattern lootbox microtransactions and is for ages 3 and above.

Not that this isn't the norm but there's plenty of free games that don't do this to you. I play a great pirate themed numbers go up game called Bounty Bash that is sufficiently fun enough that I actually pay for their monthly ad free pass. But it's just fine without it. Nothing at all like this.
