I strongly believe that you need to qualify your doomerism with active solutions that you believe will help, otherwise you are simply adding to despair which depresses liberation movements.

This is why we use every tool, including the courts.

This is why we don't let the regime future fake us.

This is why we don't give them any victories.

This is why we defend the rule of law.

This is why we don't say, "I guess this is a thing they can do now."

We hold the line.

The Trump administration no longer wants to appeal the decision of a federal judge in Oregon that blocked the president from deploying National Guard troops to Portland. The decision leaves in place a permanent injunction from November that blocked troops from deploying to Portland.

I am escorting the Crespo-Gonzalez family, including their seven year old daughter, back to Oregon now.

Out of respect for the family, additional information is not being shared at this time.

First it was 20 mil, and then there were maybe a few more mil, and now it’s 106 MILLION DOLLARS??? And how many families became homeless last month that would not have if the city wasn’t playing in our faces? So the rich can set up a shelter system that traps people in it but makes them richer??? 🫠🫠
The Portland Housing Bureau (PHB) is sitting on $106 million in unspent funds, far more than was previously reported. City Administrator Raymond Lee outlined the funding in a memo Friday afternoon.
Update: Portland Housing Bureau's Unspent Funds Reach $106 Million
News of the unspent money comes two months after city councilors learned the city's Rental Services Office amassed $21 million in revenue, which went unreported for months.

I was just denied entry to the Dilley detention facility while my constituent, seven-year-old Diana, remains inside.

What kind of sick, horrific conditions are children being forced to endure in there?

I will be back tomorrow. Accountability can’t wait.

The public made noise for Liam Ramos and it got him released from Dilley.

Now we must make noise for 7 year old Diana Crespo.

Her parents were taking her for emergency medical care when ICE grabbed them, and she’s rotting in the camp sick and exposed to measles.

Get them out!

Just called Target to shame them for calling the police on protestors (thanks @jesscraven101.bsky.social ) and the person I spoke to had an accent and seemed happy to take the call. A lot of it was us wishing each other and our families well. If nothing else they know they are cared about, I hope!

whoever figures out a way to bundle independent journalism subscriptions will be a hero
i know that this is an unpopular take, but everyone starting their own newsletter as a revenue stream is not a sustainable model for writing and reporting or for people who love and want to pay for media.

Will people finally understand! Immigrants should have a Boston Tea Party 2.0 because they are taxed without representation
Heads are going to explode 💥

Cato Institute just nuked the lie. Immigrants have cut U.S. deficits by $14.5 TRILLION since 1994, slashing the national debt by a third.

All that “immigrants are bleeding us dry” noise? Absolute bullshit.

I think a lot of us confuse hope and optimism. Hope is what we do and how we choose our actions when there aren’t very many causes for optimism, or those of pessimism seem more powerful.

Banned in WAR but sure spray it on some people who are exercising their constitutional rights
Tear gas is banned in international warfare, yet classified as a “riot control agent” that law enforcement can use for crowd control.

“It just doesn’t work well, and it hits the weakest people the most, and causes the most complications in them,” an anesthesiology professor at Duke University said.
Tear Gas Is Way More Dangerous Than Police Let On
In the middle of a respiratory pandemic, law enforcement agencies have used tear gas in especially dangerous ways. The chemical agent also seeps into homes, contaminates food, furniture, skin and surf...

The current Portland City Councilors who are endorsed by the police union are:

Smith (D1), Ryan (D2), Novick (D3), Zimmerman (D4), Clark (D4)

Listing them because the Portland Police Association is making it a fight to have a masking ban (for law enforcement) and a tear gas ban.
Please list the swing vote councillors specifically so people know who to contact. With everything going on in the country right now, it's hard to keep up with who is doing what, especially now that there are so many of you.

DA Nathan Vasquez: call 503-988-3162 and email [email protected]
Mayor Wilson has now indicated he will expedite the rule making process for the Detention Facility Impact Fee. I am grateful for that.

We also need District Attorney Nathan Vasquez to outline how he plans to hold ICE agents accountable for the unlawful use of tear gas against a group of families.
I recorded this today, in Portland, Oregon, at a huge march to the ICE facility in SW. The crowd was full of cyclists who had ridden there in memory of Alex Pretti; members of several labor unions; and ordinary citizens of every age, including this little girl. So of course ICE deployed tear gas.
