The 2024 election victory wasn’t just won by #Trump; it was crafted by #Musk, other billionaires & conspiracy culture.

Below I examine how democracy was undone by cold calculation and the players who orchestrated the improbable to make it inevitable.

White House policy is increasingly driven by (and aimed at) an increasingly small echo chamber of terminally online right wingers, which includes far too many of the administration’s own top officials. No one else can make sense of what they’re talking about much of the time.

Notable about today’s WH roundtable on Antifa, IMO: not just one outside law enforcement/public safety official brought in for it. Bondi, Patel for administration, but no police chief, state Public Safety Secy, sheriff, etc. Just a dozen right-wing “journalists”. …

Any ideas what may have happened in the interim?

The Trump regime is having trouble prosecuting James Comey on frivolous charges, and hasn’t been able to get charges against Letitia James.

They couldn’t keep Kimmel off the air.

Their desire for authoritarianism is bottomless, but their capacity is not. Hurting people yes, but bluffing a lot too.

I can’t be the only one wondering about the application of defamation law to accusations of being involved in a conspiracy, as Jenrick suggested before.

When a foreigner resides among you in your land, do not mistreat them. The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt. I am the LORD your God.

In 1923, Scottish minister John White wrote “The Menace of the Irish Race". This could have been lifted straight out of it

Stephen Daisley knows all this - not least as I wrote about it in a book he reviewed - but prefers to crack on with the same narrative 100 years later

Outstanding piece by Stephen Daisley.

Ethnicity is no barrier to Britishness - it's culture and integration.

That means 'smaller cohorts and aggressive integration policies' - and tackling the institutions that 'have amplified grievance narratives and radical anti-Western ideologies'.

In an interview on BBC TV Tory Leader Kemi Badenoch said her party would create a "Removals Force" - i.e. a copy of ICE in the USA to police immigration

ICE uses masked goons to round up people off city streets who look like illegal immigrants (i.e. brown people)

Do we really want that in the UK?

UKIP vowed to save Britain from the BNP then copied them.

The Tories vowed to save Britain from UKIP then copied them.

Labour vowed to save Britain from the Tories then echoed their framing.

Now Reform pushes a harsher version of what they all normalised.

Meanwhile, the Tory press imported American culture wars and conspiracy theories.

They radicalised the Tory base with a constant stream of scare stories about “wokeness,” “gender ideology,” “CRT”, and "Cultural Marxism."

Reform didn’t need to win hearts. The Tories did that for them.

There is nothing Badenoch cares more about than hating trans people so of course she has to throw that in and of course she does it in the crassest, thickest, most nonsensical way possible
sturdyalex.bsky.social
Badenoch: "While Britain was redefining what a woman is, China built five nuclear reactors."

A perfect summary of conservative idiocy. Glorifying authoritarian post-communism for its efficiency while vilifying democracy for seeking nuance and respect.

It is the Right who hate their own countries.

It was a plea to keep her job @mrjamesob.bsky.social

Her speech was aimed at the membership - not the electorate.

It only needed to make sense to people who read the Telegraph comment pages unironically.

Labour have presided over a "doom loop of higher taxes, weaker borders and month after month of chaos" says Kemi Badenoch who was part of a government that raised taxes and immigration levels by record amounts, whilst changing leader no fewer than four times
