My month of self-indulgence is over.

I started it carried away and became more so. Which fits, as they started brilliantly and became more so.

Anyway, here's 'The Whole Lot(ta History)' Edition.

Signing off... now 🤞for a Deep Cuts Show :)

My "favourite" bit is when Kuenssberg uses the Peggie ruling as a reason for trans people to be excluded from single-sex spaces. When the judgment says the complete opposite.

Fascism is on the rise, the cost of living is higher than ever, the NHS is still in the shitter and people are scared, tired, and furious with a useless failure of a government, but don’t worry! If you live in the cosseted political media bubble, 2026 is going to be WILD. Fuck off.

Unlike Clarkson, or Sugar, Andrew Neil actually fronted BBC politics programmes, at the same time was the publisher of a right-wing Conservative magazine and freely expressed his very right wing opinions on Twitter.

Not once did he come under pressure to step down

The fact is no presenter has ever had to leave the BBC for expressing conservative views, or even explicitly endorsing a right-wing party.

Was never a problem for Jeremy Clarkson. Was never a problem for Andrew Neil. Was never a problem for Alan Sugar

I’ve said it dozens of times before and I’ll keep saying it: the fact that Elon Musk is the richest person in the world is all the proof needed that capitalism is a bad system and should be done away with.

On the subject of BBC bias, I’d just say that I’m pretty sure they haven’t had the same kind of conversation with regular contributor Sharron Davies that they’ve had with Robin outlined below.
Very sad that I felt I had no choice but to resign from The Infinite Monkey Cage - a victory for the transphobes and other bigots - I did it because so much of the media has chosen to believe the kind and empathetic people are a fiction - they are real and so often unrepresented.

It continues to tell you everything you need to know about British politics and media that the only person who has ever had to apologise for Nigel Farage's long history of inflammatory and racist comments, is a journalist who accurately reported them as such

It is incredibly sad that the BBC is a place for Robbie Gibb, Fiona Bruce and Laura Kuenssberg, and not Robin Ince.

Again, quite a good example of how the slow erosion of the right's firewall against explicit far right bigotry has wider cultural impacts.

This soft soap profile of a noted football hooligan who died whilst participating in an intimidation campaign is part of accepting "well, they have concerns."

Splendid. Sensational.
Slides from a Home Office presentation for employers on “earned settlement” — note the case studies: they explicitly play the “good migrant” versus “bad migrant” narrative. Guess which category Sarah, the American, is placed in?
