If we are banning cell phones for kids we need to be talking about banning chatbots for boomers

I just think farming social media engagement by pumping out videos of animals, who broadly are harmed by the environmental impact of AI, absolutely sucks ass, and is a stain on the soul. Literally sit around in a park for an hour, you'll see an animal doing something cute.

Folks! We did it! The Onion has 60,000 subscribers!

We're that much closer to reaching our goal of beating The Washington Post's print circulation by the end of next year. (They were last reported at 97k, but it's probably lower now.)

Thank you all. Democracy died in darkness but we're still here.

The number of responses to this that say "simply subscribe to your local newspaper" make me want to cry. We don't have one! (My solution to this is to subscribe to like 8 monthly papers/magazines but I still miss my daily paper)
WaPo is no longer an option that I feel good about but I want to continue getting a physical paper delivered to my house as I've done my entire life. The other options seem to be NYT, WSJ and USA Today. Should I subscribe to USA Today?? I must be truly desperate if I'm even considering this

It's not a badge of honor when books get banned. It stinks for everyone. For the book creators, who worked hard to create something special that now won't be shared. The kids who miss out. The librarians and teachers who are treated like criminals. And taxpayers who have to pay for this nonsense.

one insidious thing about gen AI is it's not just causing us to mistrust dodgy images, it's also making us mistrust images that look perfectly normal. this is gaslighting in a very literal sense bc the technology is undermining the trust we have in our own ability to perceive reality!

Hi everybody,

It's Black Friday, a big day for us at The Onion, since we rely almost entirely on your memberships.

Our goal for 2026? More print subscribers than the Washington Post.

This is, somehow, feasible.

So sign up! A year of print is $75 for the year today. Help us do a very funny thing.

I don’t know if anyone else notices or cares, but when I see a presentation in which the speaker uses obviously generated-AI images to illustrate their slides, it makes me immediately less confident in whatever other content they’re presenting.

My other other conclusion is that "outfit recycling" should be the highest badge of honor in fashion and so we should STOP complimenting people for new clothes and START complimenting people who wear the same thing again.

Trump’s order to rebrand the Department of Defense as the “Department of War” this past summer will cost billions of dollars, a new report suggests. The switch requires changing signage, letterheads, employee badges, vast amounts of rewriting coding on websites and internal software, among others.
“Department of War” Name Change, Which Isn’t Even Official, Will Cost $2 Billion
The move prioritizes “political theater over responsible governance,” a group of Democrats said in a statement.
