“You described Reform and other parties across Europe today as among the 'right wing equivalents of the fascists in the 1930s'. Why?”

“Because that’s what they are”

@vicderbyshire.bsky.social asks Lord Heseltine about remarks he made at Conservative Party Conference.

Seeing too many people with some opposition power afraid of saying the f word. Not the duck word, the fascist word. Get over your fear of being earnest (“uncool” if you’re still stuck there).

People do lose their rights when they allow other people's rights to be taken away.

A resident of a nearby building asks a very important question:

“You claim you have warrants, but do you have a warrant to seize the entire building?” she asked the agents. “Do you have warrants to detain the entire building?”

Or: do people lose their rights if they live near undocumented people?

There’s a lot in here that deserves a pull quote, but this is the most egregious. I need people to recognize the gravity of the situation here in Chicago;

If you need any help in your own personal Covid/Health advocacy for masking, safety in public, accommodations for apts, human rights complaints, letters, etc, send me a dm. Part of my quest to be a “Swiss Army knife” of advocacy is to help those who need it, in any way I can.

WE’LL NEVER STOP: 9 More Ships Now 140 Nautical Miles from Gaza.

The mission continues! Despite the illegal abduction of the Global Sumud Flotilla crew, a powerful new fleet is now critically close to the shores of Gaza.

This collaborative fleet, a union of the Freedom Flotilla Coalition (@gazafreedomflotilla) and Thousand Madleens to Gaza (@thousandmadleenstogaza), is sailing with nearly 150 people from 30 countries. They are just 140 nautical miles from Gaza right now.

The world is their witness. Follow the live tracker now to see all nine boats in real-time on the Freedom Flotilla website and share this message widely.

Stop the Genocide. Keep your eyes on Gaza.

I love living in a city full of immigrants and tons and tons of people who are not at all like me and not like each other. It makes us all better and it makes our city better. I know I’m preaching to the choir by saying this on the lib app but I sometimes just get so overwhelmed by how special it is

These people are perfectly happy to embrace hierarchies that benefit them and abuse whatever privileges they can. They only thought (pretended?) they hated the state because it said they had to pay their employees a minimum wage and send their kids to school with black kids.

As I've gotten older I've realized this sort of phony libertarianism developed because the federal government was perceived as helping undeserving (read: black) people. It was never based on any deeper concerns about abuses of power.

Gonna be thinking about this lede for a minute.
(RNS) — Last month, the Rev. David Black stood in front of a Chicago-area U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility and spread his arms wide. Adorned in all black and wearing a clerical collar, the pastor looked up at a group of masked, heavily armed ICE agents on the roof and began to pray.

“I invited them to repentance,” Black, a minister in the Presbyterian Church (USA), said in an interview. “I basically offered an altar call. I invited them to come and receive that salvation, and be part of the kingdom that is coming.”

But when Black began to lower his arms a few seconds later, the agents responded to his spiritual plea by firing pepper balls, or chemical agents that cause eye irritation and respiratory distress, video footage shows. One struck Black in the head, exploding into a puff of white pepper smoke and forcing him to his knees. Fellow demonstrators rushed to his aid, and as the pastor rubbed his face in pain, the agents continued to fire.

“We could hear them laughing,” Black said.
