When would we ever use the harmonic mean? Here's one example:

Calling it now: this $250 million, 3 year “flex lane” will not solve traffic congestion on I-84

Keep in mind that while DOT is doing this (and even more work on 84!!!), the $5.7 million in funding for the Naugatuck Greenway is apparently not in their budget

Construction of new 'Flex Lane' on I-84 in Danbury – the first in CT – to start in 2028
DOT spokesman Josh Morgan said the Flex Lane and other roadway upgrades in the corridor will cost roughly $250 million.

This video of Chicagoans intervening to save a man from being abducted off the streets by ICE is making the rounds on Instagram.

Community action works.

Look what arrived today 😃

I was incredibly lucky and won these two signed copies from @simkern.bsky.social

Would anyone be interested in reading along with me? I was thinking of a very flexible, read at your own pace, and discuss in a Discord as and when able read-a-long.
Two books by Sim Kern - Genocide Bad, which has an orange cover with blue line illustrations of missiles on it, and The Free People's Village, which has a red/orange cover with a black and while illustration of a person striking a machine with a baseball bat.

Brilliant. Haven't seen these before. A solar-powered, e-ink bus sked that refreshes every 30 seconds with the latest bus wait times, at a bus stop. So simple, effective, cheap.

Wow, I love it! I feel like I might be hearing "What is the point?" playing in my head at certain times now (in a good way)

Imagine if we treated any other form of safety like this:"We should only install outlet covers in day care centers on a case-by-case basis, such as where a toddler has stuck his fingers in an electrical socket."
So instead of supporting universal daylighting, Brewer is now saying that the city should instead restrict parking at corners on a case-by-case basis, such as where there's been a crash or a fatality, a position that mimics that of the DOT.

Why Halloween candy shows up so early in stores has never felt like a mystery to me. What does feel mysterious is why, on October 20-something when I go to buy some for the neighborhood kids, the stores have already replaced their candy displays with seasonal decorations for December.

It’s September 21 and we’ve already eaten through two boxes of Halloween candy.
Our family is the answer to: why does Halloween stuff come out so early in the stores?
A mini crispy crunch and dairy milk chocolate bar.

So lemme see if I understand today’s discourse.

1. I need to be like a strategist about my vote and everything I say, which means never ever contradicting the Democratic Party line, even if it fundamentally departs from my core values.

Would be cool if the "urbanism/bike lanes/efforts to reduce car dependency are ableist" people would listen to disabled people who can't or don't drive occasionally. There's quite a lot of us.

A good reminder that we used to refer to chatgpt as a "deep fake text generator" judged too dangerous to make public by OpenAI just 6 years ago

There is absolutely no good faith reason to use the term “AI” for any technology one is selling.

It serves only for dazzling people into thinking the technology has capabilities that it doesn’t.

If one wants a technology to be trustworthy, just use a transparent, informative term without hype.

Hi. It's me. 2 weeks later. This is done. 58 frames over 3 seconds, *50* layers in the final image. WOO. This was a long edit, felt like ACTUAL work so unless I get it again with the actual sunset I doubt I'll be editing more like this. Psyched for the final piece tho! 🪶
Three pelicans diving after sunset, with a sailboat and a tanker in the distance, 2 terns also fly, the pelicans are shown in their dive motion

Nothing makes America’s descent into energy irrelevance and denial of the future more evident than the approach to Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport and seeing the sea dotted with countless wind turbines.
