Good morning friends! Some things to remember when you call your senators today:
1. Renee Good's killer is still at large and has not faced justice
2. Alex Pretti's murderers are still at large, unnamed and still working on our dime.
3. 35 people died in ICE custody last year. 35 shattered families

The Trump admin is scrambling because the secret police it sends out for kidnappings and rioting has been killing people on video then brazenly lying about it, but Schumer's instinct is to whip his caucus into taking a position *more conservative* than that held by the median voter.

He's got to go.
Majority of the country now wants to abolish and/or dismantle ICE and yet Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y. told the caucus the message had to be to “restrain, reform and restrict ICE.”

Once again it looks like Schumer is about to choke after getting a massive opportunity.

So pathetic and weak.
Senate Democrats plot strategy as DHS standoff deepens heading into shutdown week
Two sources who were on a Democratic caucus strategy call Sunday said Minority Leader Chuck Schumer told the group the message must be to “restrain, reform and restrict ICE.”

Exactly right.

Bovino's leaving? Great, get Noem to resign.

Noem resigns? Great, defund and dismantle ICE.

Go after Stephen Miller too. Bring charges against ICE thugs at the state and local level. Lawsuits. New state laws restricting them.

Every possible angle.
They are wounded and flailing. Press the advantage.

They aren’t backing down. They’re just threatening people in other cities. Still illegal. Still unconstitutional. Even if they haven’t yet backed it up by shooting someone in the face.

You all know I've been saying FOR WEEKS that this needed to happen to strategically focus on what's happening at DHS. They need to USE this to do shadow hearings across the country, to call for the complete dismantling of ICE (yes) but also the apparatus of detention, to get local media coverage.

You can be happy Bovino lost his job, that the Trump admin may temporarily pull back on its maximalist violence in Minneapolis, but don't forget that until ICE is abolished, the infrastructure that facilitates and incentivizes such violence remains intact.

The Alex Pretti murder has me thinking a lot about the Philando Castile murder. His killing was a big part of my own growth in understanding that people and groups arguing in bad faith should be ignored. Realized the NRA was not "a group I disagreed with ideologically", but a propaganda engine.

this is a fake problem. no one is saying this to regular, offline people who are coming around. they’re saying it to people who are engaged in professional political analysis who committed professional malpractice by scolding people who saw what was coming.

no, those people shouldn’t get a break.
Bluesky idea: if people who didn't agree with you change their opinions so that they do agree with you, why not be happy that you are making progress - rather than complaining that they are "only just catching up"?

The Atlantic Magazine just dropped a tremendous story on the Minnesota Resistance. The author is a war correspondent & sees the echoes of leaderless community empowerment around the globe: www.theatlantic.com/politics/202... (supposed to be a gift link, might not work, it’s in Apple News, too.)

Stunned to learn any of these goofball accounts were still a going concern
AltNPS posted about Alex Pretti's murder 25 times since this morning. During that time, they spread misinformation about the shooting, lied about knowing the shooter's name, and generally flooded the zone with shit.

They're trying to milk this story for all it's worth.

Also I think one of the biggest frustration an artist can have now is when you know and admire an artist for a while that inspired you for your art but they never seen what you did all those years, for them to go insta-follow an account clearly made with AI.

It hurts hard in a weird way.

I suspect some of these replies are just wrecker shit, but some genuinely seem to be real people spiraling. It is a scary time. That makes it all the more important to reflect on how it really can’t be made better by introducing *more* violence into it.

strange to me that a lot of people on this website simultaneously agree that the administration is run by incompetents who struggle to carry out their agenda without major political blowback AND that they’ll pull off a complex and sophisticated effort to rig elections and prevent defeat in November

“The… video is just a snapshot, but you can clearly see the state police instruct the crowd to stay off the street, and throughout the video, protestors stay off the street. if you read enough history you understand that the very best people, following their instincts, tend to make themselves targets in times like these.
New: Alex Pretti, the man killed by the Trump-Vance mob of agents was an outdoorsmen, a mountain biker, an ICU nurse who "would go out of his way to help," say Veterans Affairs colleagues.

Cheerful. Funny. Gentle.

And still, per sources, Trump officials are urging staff to call him a "terrorist."

This is a white supremacist paramilitary operation. Their goal—their stated goal!—is to force America to submit to the President's racist domineering vision for the country.

The sooner everybody starts confronting it on the terms that they themselves have stated, the better.

The NRA is utterly craven but that's why this matters. They feel the need to hedge their bets a LITTLE. which suggests they are worried about what they're seeing irt the reaction of their members to what is going on.

Feels like it should be a pretty big deal that a Trump supporter physically assaulted a Democratic congressman
Last night, I was assaulted by a man at Sundance Festival who told me that Trump was going to deport me before he punched me in the face. He was heard screaming racist remarks as he drunkenly ran off. The individual was arrested and I am okay.
