I think more than anything else AI feels like a miracle to people with questionable literacy because it can read and write for you, and a lot of us who are highly literate underestimate how many of our society's leaders, esp in business, struggle with literacy.
It's pretty much mandatory at work that I appear to be using it, so I've doe a few functional things with it, and it's a moderate time-saver if used right. But nowhere near worth it's stock value, energy cost.

Then I realize there's a lot of people who simply can't write coherent paragraphs.

Where are the cartoons of bloated CEOs rendered as Macy’s day parade floats farting out AI bots with a worker’s leg falling out the CEO’s yawning maw of a mouth??

The rage against the actual machine??

Laura Loomer as the Rasputin figure in a decaying American empire really does make total sense. An attention-addicted College Republicans washout who looks like she told her plastic surgeon "just keep going until I say stop" is our rough equivalent of a Siberian sex wizard.

people in purple states have also *chosen* to be Democrats, rather than it being the course to power available to them. notably a lot of the worst Democrats are from California and New York, very rich, very blue states.
Purple state governors tend to be better than the coastal machines only because it’s a competitive enough environment that if they DONT deliver they are out
This is why you watch Pritzker above anybody else. He is not a revolutionary. No one with any honesty will ever think him such. But he is far too rich to need anybody, and he is from Chicago, and he likes to show it.

Helpless? Prayers? That’s what pastors and civilians should be doing. We pay members of Congress to ask hard questions, start investigating, and find out if the government could have done more. Do it now before the next storm. We aren’t paying you to pray. We are paying you to help all of us.
Mike Johnson on Texas floods: "In a moment like this, we feel just as helpless as everyone else does ... all we know to do at this moment is pray."

I remember it vividly. It was June 2020 and President Biden with his vice president Hillary Clinton personally went into every city and made them defund the police. Then they told everyone that white people are evil and made us all use pronouns. Then they released Covid. Like it was yesterday.

Don’t forget that Hungary is where it started in 89
💥🇭🇺 Police have given up guarding Budapest’s Liberty Bridge as anti-government protesters shut down traffic on four major bridges, rallying against Viktor Orbán’s new law curbing freedom of assembly and banning the Pride march.

They vow to escalate with a 24-hour shutdown next week.

I’m not judging individual scholars for leaving the US for theoretically safer universities.

I’m judging the rest of you for not noticing or caring that roughly 75% of your adjunctified colleagues have neither the putative protection of academic freedom nor the means to leave.

What if the secret to winning elections is somehow Trump's syntax. We need a guy to say stuff like "But we're going to abolish billionaires and we'll be doing it very soon. They'll be paying very high taxes but it'll be very fair. And frankly they haven't paid taxes in a very long time"

When the 4 of us (incl 2 small children) were on Fulbright in 1993, our university had us on unpaid leave. If we’d had to come back (on our own dime) in the middle of the semester, we’d have come back to no salaries
Just got an email from the Fulbright Association. As of right now, funding has been cut off to 12,500 US citizens currently abroad and and more than 7,400 foreigner scholars and students in the United States

The attack on DEI shows why liberals should stop arguing about "strategic" use of language forever. DEI stands for three uncontroversial virtues that most every American accepts, and the right still turned it into a vile slur. It doesn't matter what you say - they will poison it because YOU said it.

There was a post on social media recently about how men like to rename things into turbo-charged language.

Diet = “biohacking”

Basic Grooming= “looksmaxxing”

Trump + Elon trying to break the government and fire people = “masculine maximalism”
www.axios.com/2025/02/13/t... 🚨🚨 President Trump and Elon Musk, arguably the two most unorthodox and influential American leaders of the 21st century, are practicing and fine-tuning a fused theory of governing power -> Masculine maximalism.
Behind the Curtain: Trump and Musk's masculine maximalism reshapes government
The biggest shift is the instant imposition of this new power theory across all of government and the Republican Party.
