sat down with Jurgen Klopp for 45 minutes as he told me about why he doesn’t miss coaching at all, work-life balance, why a Saturday in Central Park is better than a loss at Selhurst Park and more

a lot of great nuggets in this one, I highly recommend reading it

Jurgen Klopp loves life after coaching, doesn't plan on coming back: 'I miss nothing, I enjoy what I'm doing'
Klopp, now the head of global soccer at Red Bull, has a job that satisfies his coaching itch -- without the pressures of bearing '1,000% responsibility' for results

*very* curious about where this Atlanta #NWSL team might end up playing games
BREAKING: The NWSL is awarding its 17th franchise to Atlanta and will join the league for a record expansion fee of $165 million, sources tell The Athletic.

KC lost so much in their front line press with Chawinga and Cooper out (See: Debinha trying to do it herself in the first half). Wonder if the Current could have had a stronger midfield approach to offset Gotham’s high line
Never want to count out KC Current based on availability reports with the season the team put together, but they suffered a detrimental loss of a very special player ahead of this game that was key to success and yes I am absolutely talking about Michelle Cooper. #NWSLPlayoffs

#USMNT's Mauricio Pochettino on Gio Reyna:

"We already know the potential of Gio and the talent. ... We know he's not playing too much but it's a good opportunity in November. ... It's more about to be with him, to share time, to know [him] better"

11 (!) players crack the November roster after missing out in October, including Gio Reyna

a ton of takeaways here but one thing I find very intriguing: Diego Luna is listed as a forward here

'Tis the season (already?!) for World Cup kits! And excellent factual tidbits such as: The blue in the stripes for Argentina's is a blend of the three blues used in 1978, 1986 and 2022. (via @pcattry.bsky.social)

The World Cup home kits are here!

Adidas unveiled 22 home kits, all designed with next summer's tournament in mind and leaning heavily on tradition. I spoke to the design team on the non-negotiables of a World Cup home kit and mixing in modern touches.

I also think officially engaging bad faith actors over eligibility in a statement like this means the “protect women’s sports” crowd have successfully controlled the conversation. Everyone’s dancing around the underlying problem, except for Sarah Gorden.

it really sucks to see the NWSL catapulted into the culture wars but it also feels like a huge sign that the league's strategy of staying quiet and hoping it all goes away doesn't work, both in terms of staying out of hot-button territory & ensuring players' environments are as safe as possible

feels like a good time for this reminder: ex-Milwaukee Bucks owner Marc Lasry was in talks to buy a majority stake in the club (including the #NWSL's NC Courage) last year but the deal fell through (would've reportedly brought club's valuation to $108m)

An #NWSL coach used ChatGPT out of curiosity. I wonder if AI knew Claudia Dickey's power 🤔 Anyway, prefacing this by saying: I Was Assigned To Use AI For This Piece. It was quite funny using some of Harvey's prompts at the end of the season to see what it says now

This is leadership, as many people have already said; but also another moment where people will wonder why anyone else in a position of power hasn't spoken up. It should not have to be just Sarah Gorden's job.

Harvey said she won't name the team/game, but I will!

Reign first played a back 5 against Orlando on April 12, MD4. They lost 1-0, but did have about 0.5 more xG in that game.

They've played significantly more back 5 than 4 since then. Anyone can look this up, not sure what the secrecy is about.
