I just organized some resources for whistles if anyone wants to DIY an event or join forces with my whistle event team.

We could use support with 3D printing whistles! I’ve got files, donation links, and a sign-up sheet. Also a link to the zines if you need it!

Chicago Whistle Links | Linktree
We host weekly whistle events at places like Nighthawk in Albany Park, Beermiscuous in Lakeview, and more coming soon. Please help us print whistles & zines!

It's not bored it's no purpose. We said buying stuff is the be all and inevitably people found it hollow and instead of doing the normal thing and running off and finding a monastic religion or donating all their riches or even fucking they decided on world destruction
I vaguely understood the climate change stuff, as the profit motive from fossil fuel industries was just so strong. The antivax stuff, I didn’t see coming, and it kind of broke me. We’re just throwing away an unalloyed good because people are bored

I think this is the right take. From outside of New York, I know it seems NYC is a hotbed of democratic liberalism. But actual New York politics are almost the reverse: the New York Democratic Party leadership is united mainly by trying to keep the left from power.
Really feel like the NYC mayor’s race shows that there is no such thing as a progressive establishment, and there is, in fact, an anti-progressive establishment that runs all the way from Murdoch to Clinton
Former President Bill Clinton is endorsing former Gov. Andrew Cuomo, his former HUD secretary, as the Democratic establishment tries to attempt to ensure Zohran Mamdani does not win the Democratic primary for NYC mayor. www.nytimes.com/2025/06/22/n...

I am surrounded by people who are outsourcing their own thinking to ChatGPT and they are quickly and obviously becoming dependent on it for even the most banal tasks. Once again, the "figuring it out" is the important part. Yes, you can use a crane to lift weights but you will not get stronger

These "hunger games" being played by Israel and the US are so disgusting. The humiliation and terrorizing and murdering of Palestinians via inhumanitarian aid is further evidence of how dehumanized Israel and the US are.

It is hard to grasp but large masses of Americans are both racist/xenophobic AND not racist/xenophobic enough to applaud what Trump is doing. It's goldilocks shit, they want a level of racism/xenophobia calibrated exactly to their personal preferences, and you just can't make that policy. Don't try.

3 to 5 years of experience for an entry-level job. Rounds of interviews only to get ghosted. Lengthy applications that seem to disappear into the void. For @teenvogue.com's Work in Progress column, I talked to young workers and experts about why finding a job feels so impossible right now:
Why Does Getting a Job Feel Impossible Right Now?
It’s bleak out there.

This whole thread—all of it—about how rigged this game feels, and how you can do everything right and still have things go wrong that should never go wrong.
Apropos of nothing, thru my spouse‘s job we have “ good” insurance. 5yrs ago, I had knee replacement &they made me jump thru 1 million hoops ofc (& we were out of pocket $$$$ too). 1 month later, they sent me a 5-figure bill for the full amount. They *retroactively* unapproved it & demanded I pay up

Took me a bit but I've found the framing to put into words a way to express to the people fretting about the death of the UHC CEO why we just aren't heeding their admonishment:

The social contract stipulates that all life is sacred, and Brian Thompson violated it.

But it's more than that.

The fact that this is the woman exposed the most powerful man in conservative media as a monstrous sexual predator when he preyed on her is a reminder that, for better or for worse, solidarity and empathy are optional. You can just not have them if you don’t want to.
I just heard Megyn Kelly pose the question "do you think you're being Kavanaugh'ed" to Pete Hegseth and it just feels like a good time to repeat that I believe Christine Blasey Ford, and I believe Anita Hill, and Megyn Kelly is a piece of actual shit.

Trans bathroom bans are bad for all of us, for MANY reasons. Aside from their obvious discrimination against trans people—what they say, at heart, is “You body, especially what’s in your pants, decides what rights you get.” I hope cis folks, especially my fellow cis women, see the dangers here.
okay, we're starting with this

Step 1. call your own rep if you haven't already!

Step 2. sign this (cis women only please! cis guys, you can help by boosting)

Step 3. much depends on the success and reach of step 2; lots of options if this blows up
