It’s not on here yet, which means I am duty bound and sad to share that Joel Klatt has produced the single worst opinion of 2025. I don’t see it getting beaten.

I think we should have one person pick the teams (@espnbillc.bsky.social) and one person explain the picks (@rodger.bsky.social) but they should never ever be allowed to have a conversation together and so the explainer has to mostly guess
i think we should go back to a zero team playoff and let a random assortment of sportswriters vote on the national champ. or maybe have no national champ.

The committee deciding that it won’t use a head-to-head result as a tiebreaker unless the teams are one spot apart in rankings is … insane.

All of these people on TV talking how about how you can't punish Alabama for losing its conference championship game and refusing to acknowledge that BYU got punished for losing its conference championship game. It's maddening.

I can believe everything about this situation other than that they didn't keep BYU in place to provide logical consistency. Not even trying to apply consistent logic on the championship blowout loss is just lazy business

Are we really going after Tulane and James Madison on this?

THEY'RE THE PROBLEM?

Any and all of the predictable laments about two G5 teams in the Playoff HAS TO INCLUDE acknowledgement of the ACC being inept. Blame the ACC. Blame the conference commissioners who built this format.

Don't blame JMU and Tulane, who took care of business and cleared the bar. This is not on them.
why are we bashing jmu and tulane when the acc was a trash heap that should’ve been no-bid

The committee moved BYU down for a championship game blowout loss, setting up the ND-Miami comparison.

The committee also did NOT move Alabama down for a championship game blowout loss.

The committee is bad and stupid, but you can miss me with the feeling bad for Notre Dame.

The selection committee did a terrible job all year, dug themselves into so many holes and stayed inconsistent to the very end.

You can argue the final result was right or wrong, but the process to get there was a mess.

My argument against the playoff from its introduction is that it's the only postseason in college sports that doesn't offer a bid to every conference champion and that remains true

2014-2022: The “the committee is always biased in favor of Bama and gives them lots of undeserved freebies” thing was frequently repeated, but not really true

2023-2025: It’s true now lmao!

Worst of all, the Playoff has finally put Notre Dame in its place ... but did so wrongly? How could you miss that layup?

Stark naked brand devotion.
So, BYU was penalized for getting blown out in its conference championship game (dropped one spot). Which allowed Miami to move up and get compared directly to Notre Dame.

But Alabama was not penalized for getting blown out in its conference championship game.

This is the worst selection committee we've ever had.

Cannot believe Alabama didn't even drop one spot after the SEC title game blowout. Cannot believe they waited until the final reveal to flip Miami-ND. Could have done it at ANY point.

I’m down for not caring about the 13th team. But I’m also down for calling out the committee for being so logically inconsistent that they are absolutely destroying the credibility of their product.

The "how the team is playing now rule" just transparently does not apply to Alabama this year. Incredible. Notre Dame could very well beat these dudes by 21 to 35 points

I don't think it's great for faith in the sport's governance that two teams in the 12-year history of the Playoff have made the field when they really shouldn't have, and both of those teams were Alabama

Indiana was the worst team in college football for 150 years and then they let you start paying players and they immediately became No. 1 and the only conclusion one can draw is they were the only ones who didn’t realize you could pay players under the table for the first 150 years.

This game is restoring my confidence in the purity of college sports. Every reason for the ACC to make sure Virginia wins this and the officials don't call an obvious PI that would have set up a critical UVa TD.
how was that not another pass interference. Ref got tired of calling it
