I have been banging this drum for decades! Yes, the Founders were the tainted products of a horrible society. This absolutely does not negate the fact that they bequeathed us the most progressive system of government the world had ever seen AND included the mechanism for improving it as we go.
“America was founded on lofty and laudable ideals” is not refuted by “they kept slaves and did genocide,” they’re just two different things that are true. That the ideals were not realized then, that we haven’t gotten there now, does not mean that those ideals aren’t there.
