The U.S. has the highest incarceration rate of any independent democracy on Earth, making it a leader in mass incarceration.

Far too many people are locked up in the “land of the free.”

Asmongold gamifies harassment by goading his audience into targeting developers and celebrating when they get fired. This stuff doesn’t happen in secret.

Twitter pays people based on engagement (views, retweets, comments, etc). It appears that many MAGA accounts are based abroad and they use AI technology to generate low-effort rage bait.

My guess is that this will get worse as AI tech improves. For instance, fake videos of minorities doing crime.

Absolutely unhinged. The opposite — in almost every case — of what the “free speech warriors” claimed they wanted. It was always, as it so often is, just about control.
New: Reuters has tallied job losses, suspensions and investigations stemming from the reaction to Charlie Kirk's Sept. 10 assassination. Its findings: More than 600 Americans have been punished, and the figure is likely to be an under-count.

KIRO 7 ran an article and two TV pieces on the theft of a box truck full of arcade PCBs, artwork, and machines from my workplace yesterday. If anyone in the Seattle area sees someone offloading a ton of CPS2/NAOMI/Neo Geo PCBs, stuff of that nature, please reach out.

Kyle Kingsbury is not a journalist. He is not an op-ed writer.

He is a computer safety researcher.

And he has written one of the most compelling, comprehensive accounts of the ongoing hell in Chicago that you could possibly imagine.

In under 1600 words.

Lorenz provides an incredibly cogent breakdown of just how quickly modern harassment campaigns are fed by conspiracies and spread across social media by bad faith actors.
The Hasan Piker dog collar incident shows that proponents of the surveillance state, like Larry Ellison, who claimed that mass video surveillance would lead to more accountability, are catastrophically wrong.
Hasan Piker and the Future No One Is Ready For
The backlash that Piker is facing shows the consequences of a world where everyone is constantly being recorded and our internet is built to reward outrage and controversy.

Ghost of Yotei is a masterpiece. It ruled over my waking and sleeping moments for a week.

There's so much love and attention poured into this game, so much artistry on display, so I tried to do the same with my review for @rollingstone.com.

I like Jimmy Kimmel. I really do. I have no issues with him.

I'm talking about something very different.

Kimmel was only suspended. But he's back now. Karen Attiah and all the other Black journalists are still fired.

Y'all do know how to fight, when you want to.

But you don't really want to. 🤷🏿‍♂️

Bonkers that this isn’t just a given, but here we are…
HUGE NEWS: Governor Newsom just signed into law our bill to ban ICE & other law enforcement from wearing ski masks & other extreme masks.

The No Secret Police Act (SB 627) will help stop the masked secret police who are kidnapping people in our communities.

This letter to The Economist makes a decent point. The case for robo taxis probably feels overwhelming in a country where the urban design means you're utterly screwed without a car.

It's like how higher crime rates presumably boost the car for security solutions. Not entirely enviable

AOC: We should be clear about who Charlie Kirk was. A man who believed that the civil rights act that granted black Americans the right to vote was a mistake… His rhetoric and beliefs were ignorant, uneducated, and sought to disenfranchise millions of Americans.

The fact that Sinclair and Nextstar own so many local news broadcasters across this country should be illegal in and of itself, let alone a merger.

Local news isn’t local if it isn’t locally owned.
Why have I not seen one Seattle news outlet localize what the Jimmy Kimmel thing means on the local level? Because it means a lot.

Sinclair - the company that did this to him - owns KOMO. And they're bowing to the FCC so they can merge with Nextstar/TEGNA, which just bought KING 5.
