“Not only is the ratio of AI’s resource rapacity to its productive utility indefensibly and irremediably skewed, AI-made material is itself a waste product: flimsy, shoddy, disposable, a single-use plastic of the mind.”

Whew, this was good.
YES! THIS on GenAI!

Please read this absolutely splendid piece of writing that had me cheering, a little bit weepy, and writing in the margins:

"An extraordinary amount of money is spent by the AI industry to ensure that acquiescence is the only plausible response. But marketing is not destiny."
Large Language Muddle | The Editors
The AI upheaval is unique in its ability to metabolize any number of dread-inducing transformations. The university is becoming more corporate, more politically oppressive, and all but hostile to the ...

I saw an infographic a couple years ago about how to remove source identifiers from links and why it's important, but I can't find it again and too many people I know are sending me links with them so here's an infographic straight from the oven

Good morning to everyone else who only realized as grown adults that u had been lied to as a kid and actually no, children cannot fight "with" their parents

Because of how power dynamics work

It's hard to explain to people outside this fight that Texas is currently trying to ban kids from using public libraries... but they are; it's passed out of committee, and it's going to a floor vote.

🚨If you know ANYONE in Texas it's time for them to call their reps and demand NO ON HB3225🚨
Bad. Despite the voucher debate, the Tx State Affairs committee met and voted FOR HB3225. This bill would require public libraries to have age restrictions and cordone off parts of the library as inaccessible to teens. @amlibraryassoc.bsky.social @penamerica.bsky.social @everylibrary.bsky.social

Netanyahu has the sort of pleased look you’d expect if you successfully helped another country get taken over by Nazis to make it easier for you to kill refugees.
DOOCY: Would Palestinians have the right to return to Gaza if they left during the rebuilding?

TRUMP: It would be my hope that we could do something really nice, really good, where they wouldn't want to return

Seems like a good day to recommend re-reading Umberto Eco on Fascism and the obligation to oppose it in all its forms: www.nybooks.com/articles/199...
Ur-Fascism | Umberto Eco
I think it is possible to outline a list of features that are typical of what I would like to call Ur-Fascism, or Eternal Fascism. These features cannot be organized into a system; many of them contra...
