After ruling the NIH grant terminations illegal, Judge Young ended the hearing with an eye-opening speech.

“This represents racial discrimination, and discrimination against America’s LGBTQ community. That's what this is. I would be blind not to call it out. My duty is to call it out. And I do so.”
THIS IS IT! THIS IS HUGE!!

PLAINTIFF'S WIN!!

Judge Young rules that the NIH grant terminations at issue in these cases are illegal and therefore vacated. BOOM!
"This Court rules that the challenged directives . . . are arbitrary and capricious."

"They are of no force and effect."

"They are illegal and so are each of the terminations before this Court"

Confirming what we knew all along. Bastards.
APHA Plaintiffs' counsel:

Directives to terminate grants came largely from outside NIH, including by officials at HHS (Rachel Riley) and Doge (Brad Smith).

More evidence showing that NIH officials did not make a reasoned, considered decision before terminating each grant.

I know, norms and all that, but the default Dem position should be:

We think this is illegal but if the courts say you can do this then we are going to rip the guts out of the entire conservative movement. No more Heritage, FedSoc, etc. All of them lose their tax exempt status.

This is not something the President can decree. Reporting like this makes it seem as if Trump has more power than he does. He does not have the power to do this. His wishes and obscene desires are not, in fact, policy. He’s just talking— essentially braying at the moon like an enraged wolf.

I think this is about the "proposed" 15% cap on IDC. Can anyone confirm? I was hoping it was about the filing by the NY AG, but don't see anything about it on the news...

I've already had two federal grants terminated and face a 33% pay cut due to future terminations. It's painful, but not as painful as the conversations I'm having every day with brilliant trainees in graduate school and postdoctoral positions who see little future for themselves in US science.

The White House reportedly wants to recruit corporate sponsors for its annual Easter Egg Roll.

The financial backers could spend as much as $200,000 on a "sponsorship" and gain exclusive access to the Oval Office.

Is there anything that's not for sale under Trump?

From a Friday afternoon NIH termination notice:

"Research programs based on gender identity are often unscientific, have little identifiable return on investment, and do nothing to enhance the health of many Americans. Many such studies ignore, rather than seriously examine, biological realities."

Yes, it is entirely correct to point out that ICE officers do not have any legal authority to break into somebody’s home unless they get a judicial warrant; which they generally cannot do, because judges only issue warrants for probable cause of crimes, not immigration law violations.
