We're decades downstream from at most light sentences for photographing torture and no sentences for authorizing it or perpetrating it. Only looking forward offers amnesty to those who commit crimes in our name and on the public payroll, and makes further violations more likely. Here we are.

it is your DUTY as a parent to be basic and cringe. if your child says "6-7" and you do not say, loud enough for their friends to hear, "8-9?", causing profound silence and intense discomfort, you are neglecting your responsibilities. being cool is for kids. your days of being laughed WITH are over

My favorite Rev3 story:
Rev3 had been acquired by Discovery so we were encouraged to do “Shark Week” episodes for our shows. On the Friday before SW we were told by Discovery’s lawyers that we didn’t have permission to use the Shark Week branding and we had to edit it out of everything we shot.
@packbenpack.bsky.social Hey Ben! Was just going through some nostalgia with Revision3 and noticed that you were an intern there. How was that experience?

I wrote about reporters’ refusal to use “act of war,” “invasion” or “coup” when covering Trump’s brazen attacks on Venezuela, instead echoing WH-approved euphemisms, and the broader trend of our press dutifully giving Trump’s lawlessness the vague whiff of international legitimacy when it has none.

Oil is touted by Trump as a grievance and justification, but it's not the main factor ofc

The overarching reason comes down to the US wanting to expand its economic, geopolitical and ideological influence in Latin America, as it has done over the past centuries within its monroe doctrine framework
Yeah, if there's one thing I wish I could press into the brains of every leftist commenting on this it's that "the US did this because it needs their oil" is a bad analysis in the structural incentives of the 2020s. Trump personally just thinks "blood for oil" sounds cool.
its incredible to read how the regime has to do a hard sell on the oil companies for this. president grandpas 1989 brain does it again. oil is 50 dollars a barrel and the infrastructure is degraded and the situation completely confused and politically volatile. oil ceos not exactly excited. amazing

Perhaps now people will stop wishcasting about the US military refusing illegal orders. That's not a thing that happens. The 100% compliance rate with using civilian boats for target practice was a bit of a tell.

And there ya have it…

Officials from top Wall Street firms will be traveling to Venezuela to investigate “investment prospects” of the country. “The trip will feature about 20 officials from the finance, energy and defense sectors.”

One thing people forget is that the US supports plenty of dictators right now, it has supported dictators in the past, and it has installed its own dictators in other countries through regime change operations.

The US doesn't care that Maduro was a dictator or bad, they care he opposed them.
it really doesn't matter whether maduro was "bad"

Incredible. CBS Evening News announces five new “simple values” — instead of their “38-page handbook” — as they roll out Tony Dokoupil is lead anchor.

One of those values is simply: “We love America and make no apologies for saying so.”
