The Nuremberg Laws were passed. Jim Crow laws were passed. South Africa’s apartheid laws were passed.

If that’s all it takes to clear the bar for “liberal democracy,” then “liberal democracy is not good enough.
She helped pass a bill—which is 100% part of liberalism. Maybe you don’t like the bill. Maybe the bill will hurt some people and have bad outcomes. But that’s part of liberal democracy.

USPS quietly changed its postmark rules — mail is no longer dated when you drop it off. The “official” date is when it hits automated sorting — sometimes days later

Which could have major implications for mail in voting — it’s a clever way to disenfranchise voters that’s going largely overlooked

Sometimes when the buses aren't tracking, I'll walk into Downtown.

Walking these car-sewer streets reminds me of why I prefer taking a bus in. Too much of Downtown is an island disconnected from the rest of the city by large corridors of grimness. Lots of room for improvement.

Keir Starmer was the model for centrists and popularists who insisted that moving right on issues, especially immigration, is how you win at politics.

Wonder if there will ever be any self-reflection here! Ah well nevertheless

The absolute disconnect of a class of rich political commentators from the reality of America should be studied.

Ezra Klein who has been famously wrong about nearly everything over the last 5 years does not deserve a years salary for a talk.

In America, where irony is dead, a hotel chain uses a policy denying shelter to local people, for fear of accidentally housing homeless persons…

To deny a reservation to the author of a much-lauded book on how American economic unfairness forces working people into homelessness.
A Hampton Inn in Asheville just canceled my family's reservation because our address (incorrectly) showed Asheville—and the hotel bars locals within 50 miles.

When I asked why, they said, "because of our homeless population," adding that most hotels here have similar policies.

This is outrageous.

This is a pretty amazing transformation in Midtown Atlanta: it's the view of West Peachtree Street, looking north from 10th Street. The first one is from today and the second one is from 2012. We're having a nice MARTA/walking adventure in this glorious weather.

Earlier this year, we published an article on how women are increasingly seeking out testosterone to help with energy or their sex lives. We followed up with one woman who went on testosterone to help with her menopausal symptoms. The effects had unexpected consequences for her marriage.

As I detailed in ONE NATION UNDER GOD, the religious nationalism of the Cold War era was deliberately broadly drawn.

Invocations of a broadly drawn "God" were fine, but references to Jesus Christ were understood to be far beyond the pale.
I don't think there's any understanding of the First Amendment under which this ("our Savior") is constitutional. Yet they don't care, and they've eliminated all the attorneys who would've objected.

Kudos to the Goldwater and Cato Institutes for condemning it.

People do ask (politely) about their work and they can't pitch it because what makes it special is that they are the specialest boy. They go to panels and hear queer and BIPOC writers talk about their work and think "ah ha". +

Every Democrat running for office needs to promise investigations and full prosecutions from top to bottom, remove its funding bloat then break up the agency and distribute its core remaining useful functions across other agencies.
ICE detain father shopping on Christmas Eve—then steal his family's groceries.

Then 3 agents divvy up his paid for food—taking what they want for themselves.

"Can I just get the wife's number to call and let her know?" woman asks.

"No, guess he should've complied," agent says.
