Sheldon remind me when did Chuck Schumer fight united with the Democratic nominee for mayor of New York
The sooner we get past internal recriminations and back to fighting united, the better off we all are — the likelier our victory next November.

look at what this leadership did with oversight powers of SCOTUS in the middle of multiple devastating scandals for the conservatives. look at the half assed impeachments and half-assed oversight during the teens.

im legit cracking up at the “we gave functional criminal immunity to the part of the US government that basically ensures the legislature will never function again under a blue government while simultaneously giving free range to the fascist right wing party” revelation of the vichy dem cave bill

This is way worse than the caving being about protecting the filibuster or even the Senators wanted their flights back for the holidays
I am kind of sitting here mouth agape as I realize that the thing that really got eight Democrats to cave was a provision which provides backdoor criminal and civil immunity to them personally by making it functionally impossible to ever investigate the Senate
read the actual bill text and this is quite literally a provision designed solely to impede civil and criminal investigations into United States Senators and their staff. www.appropriations.senate.gov/imo/media/do...

My presumption is that democratic leadership in the senate are content with this given that the only thing they could give salience were the ACA extensions that they still chose to abandon

replaying the 2018-2024 span expecting a different outcome come 2032
my strong suspicion is that dems believe they’ll coast to major gains in the midterms no matter what, and their awful posture right now on all the horrors is less about winning next november and more about what they’re rhetorically committed to do should they win

“if we talk a lot about ICE and then win, we will be expected to do something about ICE. can’t have that!” this is setting up 2 years of dicking around with bipartisan healthcare legislation that goes nowhere. that’s the plan afaict

This is my assessment as well. They know if they name how horrific the horrors are, they'll be stuck having to push back on whatever the new political status quo is in 2027

first of all, lmao

second of all, yaint getting shit through the senate, are you high?
Kaine says he thinks Johnson will have no choice but to take up the subsidies if it passes through the Senate. "And if it comes out of here bipartisan, he cannot not take it up without having November 2026 make November 2025 look like a picnic."
