I wish "antifa" had not gained such widespread usage. If we just said "anti-fascist," then it would be immediately clear to anyone what the opposite of that is.

Ann Radcliffe eating hard cheese right before bed to give herself nightmares, Stoker claiming Dracula was the result of a nightmare induced by a “too generous helping of dressed crab,” let’s go back to the golden age of eating incredibly rich food before bed to create horror literature

NOTABLE -- Pam Bondi refuses to answer direct questions about if the FBI has incriminating photos of Trump with half-naked young women, but instead deflects from them by attacking Sen. Whitehouse

When Democrats controlled the White House, Senate and House there were no shutdowns because we acted like adults and negotiated with Republicans.

Now Republicans control everything and they're refusing to even show up for work. Because they think the chaos of a shutdown is fun.

Some peoples’ need for one thing to be “better” or in any way superior to another thing is just a creepy weird impulse.

There ain’t nothin’ better than whatcha like, folks.

The ICE agents deploying these are people without necessary training, those who couldn’t cut it in police training or didn’t want to join the military.

They are in this to hurt people and play Call of Duty on our streets, deploying chemical weapons on our neighbors as if they’re pressing L1.

Remaining feds left the scene in a large caravan, deploying more tear gas straight into the crowd - and right at my feet - as they left.

I can't exaggerate how important it is that every ICE officer is met with contempt & mockery in public, everywhere they go, for the rest of their lives.

the most uncanny aspect of the 21st century is how many stories we have about charlatan showmen who conned the world—from PT Barnum to Andrew Wakefield—and yet we still take grandiose, provably false claims from tech CEOs as though they are harmless or, at worst, true

In a city of world-class artists and production crew hunting for the next gig, Andrew Cuomo made a TV ad the same way he wrote his housing policy: with AI.

Then again, maybe a fake Cuomo is better than the real one?

"Republicans run the entire government but can't keep it open"

That's it. That's the whole story.
jfallows.bsky.social
Yes. (And still getting "standoff" BS and "who will blink first" and "who will voters blame" from news.)

Trump and MAGA control the *entire* government. It's a simple fact:
- White House
- Senate
- House
- Scotus
- OMB (to the hilt)
- Every regulatory agency

They're in command. It's on them.
obriensci.bsky.social
I do not understand why they cannot get the headlines right.

Just follow the gop playbook!

“Repubs control it all! The shutdown is on them!”

As nauseum.

Don’t lead with the nuance.

This is correct.

If you heard someone in an assisted-living facility rambling on this way, you'd be talking with the doctors about appropriate next levels of care.

No kidding.

And every officer in the room has to realize it.

If Joe Biden were giving this rambling speech, itd be treated as a four alarm fire in every newsroom in the country about his very obvious physical and mental decline. But because its Trump, they'll all mostly just shrug and move past it.

I don't think we'll ever get another sentence which sums up everything the New York Times embodies quite like "Some legal experts have called it a crime to summarily kill civilians".
mattcameron.bsky.social
hey @nytimes.com: there is no counterpoint here. There are no credible legal experts who would EVER say that the US military has any right or authority to blow civilian craft out of the Caribbean and kill their crews from afar without any provocation. There is no other side to this question.
"Some legal experts have called it a crime to summarily kill civilians not directly taking part in hostilities, even if they are believed to be smuggling drugs."

"Dems will get blamed for a shutdown" as opposed to what, all the friendly coverage and positive credit they'd get for caving yet again? This whole premise is built on a delusion about what the alternative is. There's no cowering in the corner and being so inoffensive they won't still attack you.
