I sometimes feel the NYT Pitchbot is less extremist than the actual newspaper.
Less than 24 hours after the actual journalists at the NY Times published a story about Trump dismantling the federal climate agency, the NY Times opinion page decided it was time to blast out a Matt Ygelsias rant demanding liberals show more fealty to the fossil fuel industry.

This is all fine and dandy but the real problem regarding excess wealth isn't CEO's: it's owners. You can drop CEO pay to 20-1 and it'll barely make a dent in wealth accumulation because its main driver isn't the CEO's paycheck, it's the dividends given to shareholders.

Tax dividends.
CEO-to-worker pay ratio in 1965: 20-1

CEO-to-worker pay ratio in 1990: 75-1

CEO-to-worker pay ratio today: 280-to-1

What can we do about this? Here's one good idea.

You know it's bad when even Bill friggin' Kristol thinks the Democratic leadership is spineless.
For some reason Democratic leaders seem to prefer telling voters what they won’t be able to do, rather than what they’d like to do.

If Hegseth ordered a war crime and lied about it, shouldn’t Ds try for impeachment? Put Rs on the spot. They might get a few defections.

Jeffries says not to expect Democrats to pursue Hegseth impeachment over boat strikes
"Republicans will never allow articles of impeachment to be brought to the floor," he said.

Jeremy Corbyn and Zara Sultana's leadership abilities are so dismal that if they had to lead a herd of lemmings off a cliff, they'd all survive.

The privilege of being a white neoliberal.
Larry Summers’ name quietly disappeared from the websites of the firms he advised. “Summers is allowed to fade quietly into the background,” giving him the chance to salvage his reputation. From: @dylangyauchl.bsky.social and @henryburke.bsky.social: trib.al/HeRbpu5

We had one crisis during the post-war welfare state (the 1973 oil crisis) which wasn't even caused by anything related to the welfare state and it was enough to throw the greatest economic system in human history out the window. Meanwhile we have this 👇 and the solution is more predatory capitalism.
I once again remind people that basically nobody under 40!!! has actually seen sustained economic growth in their adult lives

This btw, includes Liz Cheney.
1/6 Democrats need to be more inclusive, especially with voters.

But inclusivity does not mean whitewashing far-right pro-Russian conspiracy theorists like Marjorie Taylor Greene.

She is not backstabbing Trump to help Democrats but to help Vance, Musk and Thiel, who are worse

I love the centrist obsession with thinking that Manchin is better than no Manchin when 1) he and Sinema buried the most transformative elements of Biden's agenda and 2) why one seat in a red state is so much more sacred than all the purple seats they lose or the 100m people that don't vote.
I’m haunted by a prominent NYC left organizer telling me that Joe Manchin should be primaried and that advocacy groups - with enough budget - could easily elect a progressive in his place.

I feel every YouTube thumbnail now has to have a combination of 1) thirst trap, 2) unnecessary arrows pointing at the obvious, and 3) the host of the video looking confused despite the fact that they should presumably know what they are talking about.

Today on Starbucks boycott day, a hilarious reminder of how much money Starbucks has probably lost in the Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking world from people ordering a "Grande" (which means Large in Spanish) and getting served a Medium because of their stupid Tall/Grande/Venti sizes. 🤡

Funny that someone who just recently tweeted how important economic history is to know conveniently forgets (to make a Steven Pinker-like left-bashing point) that starvation was never a real threat to the US post-independence (which at the time had much higher nutrition outcomes than Europe). /1
people have no conception of "and then you starved to death" being an outcome you had to worry about almost constantly

You can save word count by simply saying that capitalism is authoritarian by nature.
The more democratic elements of the American constitutional and economic order are actually throwing up road blocks to Trumpism. Protests and boycotts and low level courts and juries and cetera. Elite actors on the other hand are all too frequently caving. Fascinating study in who actually cares!

Kind of unsurprising that as Trump's GOP becomes the political establishment, and a highly despised one at that, it's biggest nutters are now going to try and outflank it from an even more populist angle.
Marjorie Taylor Greene has confided to colleagues that she wants to run for president, according to four sources familiar with the matter, including one who has spoken with her directly about it.

Your friendly reminder that they never have this same requirement for the progressive left.
When I worked in WaPo Opinions in 2017-2018, senior editors specifically told junior editors not to factcheck Marc Thiessen and other MAGA columnists, otherwise they wouldn’t be able to publish anything by them at all, and “we need them for intellectual diversity.”
It’s very telling that opening your publication to MAGA “thought” requires a massive downgrade in quality control.
