Leonard Cohen who died on this day 2016:
I did my best, it wasn't much
I couldn't feel, so I tried to touch
I've told the truth, I didn't come to fool you
And even though it all went wrong
I'll stand before the Lord of Song
With nothing on my tongue but Hallelujah
I did my best, it wasn't much
I couldn't feel, so I tried to touch
I've told the truth, I didn't come to fool you
And even though it all went wrong
I'll stand before the Lord of Song
With nothing on my tongue but Hallelujah

Just finished Han Kang's We Do Not Part last night. It will take a while to process all that is contained between the covers. The writing & translation (by e. yaewon & Paige Aniyah Morris) are exquisite. There is love & tenderness & care, profound trauma & brutality, art & nature & spirits & memory.
Announcing the longlist for the Warwick Prize for Women in Translation 2025! Featuring 10 languages, 12 publishers, 4 collections of poetry - and much more. The longlist travels from Argentina to South Korea, from Haiti to Romania, from Sweden to Slovenia.

Can’t say I know much about the powers of the Irish president but it’s interesting that this woman ran as a left-wing independent, won 63% of the vote, was lauded by her opponent, and is succeeding the man who took his adorable dogs everywhere. Seems a proper country.
Independent left-wing politician Connolly wins Irish presidency in landslide
Catherine Connolly, a veteran lawmaker on the far left of the Irish political spectrum, was elected president by a landslide margin on Saturday in a stinging rebuke to the recently re-elected centre-right coalition.
