You'll be amazed to discover that a bunch of anonymous people that Nigel Farage says definitely do exist, have confirmed that he didn't say any of the things that lots of other people say on the record that he absolutely did

Really interesting shift from Starmer basically saying Reform are beyond the pale of normal politics. An active threat, unlike Conservative Party
“If there is a Conservative government, I can sleep at night.” A right-wing populist Reform UK government, however, “is a different proposition”.

Well done Emma Barnett on #r4today exposing the blatant antisemitism of Richard Tice, MP (and deputy leader of Reform) - he called the Jewish man abused at school by Nigel Farage with the foulest of antisemitic language a liar and said it was “lefty twaddle”…

A new low for Farage, Tice, and Reform…

Truly shocking that Rachel Reeves had the audacity to call herself the U14 girls chess champions when she won the U14 girls chess championship but some bloke thought she was talking about something else.

Labour: let people use nectar points to buy baby formula, it'd be slightly cheaper
The very online right: THIS IS COMMUNISM
The very online left: NATIONALISE BABY FORMULA NOBODY SHOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR IT
Just need 'everyone should breastfeed anyway' to complete the deck
The right wing British politics twitter reaction/the policy.

I wish I was making this up.

I often boast about being the national schoolboy public speaking champion in my youth. Just in case anyone at the Times, Telegraph, Mail, Spectator etc is preparing a humiliating exposé, I would like to clarify that it was the 1988 English Speaking Union National Schools Public Speaking competition.

This is how Chris Mason, like a child filled with wonder, described "the choreography and theatre that surrounds a Budget" in Feb 2024, when a male Tory Chancellor was in post.

"Plans, or even just options, can be floated... Reaction to them can be tested. Opponents can be teased or wrongfooted." 👀

Mason's misinformation was the top news item for two days. Not a bulletin went by on national TV or Radio in which he didn't put in a shift. Today he is NOWHERE to be found, of course.

The correction was given 25 seconds, at the end of News at 6, "in other news", just before an item about Santas.

Keir Starmer admitted that Brexit has badly damaged the UK’s economy.

“Every analysis makes it clear that the deal we have has harmed our economy. That’s why we have rebuilt and reset our relationship with the EU, and I’m proud we’ve managed to do that,”

No that's not *your* on *our behalf*. Your job is to report the story, presenting all sides fairly and then *we* call it. What Mason is saying here is fundamentally not what the bbc is for!

The general position of journalists in that Starmer Q&A appeared to be: The economy has been doing better than expected and so the Chancellor did not have to increase income tax, breaking a manifesto pledge, as feared, therefore, THE CHANCELLOR MUST RESIGN. 😵‍💫
I find it interesting that every single TV political journalist opened with an editorialising comment, while all the newspaper ones just asked questions. I suspect, because the latter know the question won't be in the write-up, while the former are trying to craft a clip that is all about them. ~AA

Honestly the completely weird Budget coverage is mostly a sign of how pretty much any attack can stick when you’re unpopular enough.

Of course Rachel Reeves didn’t brief the full Cabinet on Budget details weeks in advance! No chancellor ever does! It would immediately leak!

This story is starting to make me feel I’m going slightly mad - maybe RR overdid the gloom, but the tax rises are paying for a) the welfare U-turns b) the £10bn-plus increase in headroom c) scrapping the two child limit d) bits of other spending eg higher local gov costs 🤷🏻‍♀️

Exactly - in response to previous governments' decade+ of attritional attacks on UK fiscal capacity, which was repeatedly exposed by *real events*, RR created a tiny bit of fictional headroom for the end of this Parliament. That's the exact opposite of 'pessimism'.
Feel like I'm going mad. The Budget's 'headroom' is based on frankly irresponsible and wildly optimistic claims about what Labour will do in the final year of the forecast, and on ignoring a bunch of upward pressures on spending, and the claim is that she was being exaggeratedly *pessimistic*?
Suggestion Rachel Reeves exaggerated fiscal pressures is absurd
Chancellor was instead far too optimistic about public finances and government’s ability to secure cuts

It's completely ridiculous. Pre-budget everyone thought the headroom gap was £20-30bn including policy changes (e.g. on welfare). It was in fact £16bn.

It's hardly a massive difference.
I’m quite enjoying the 180 turn on a six pence from “you’ve wrecked the economy and created a black hole” to “there was no black hole and this is even worse”.
