Dear supporters of Bitmap Books,

Although I stand by the fact that Moses’ comments were ill-advised and insensitive, the whole thing blew up and was made much bigger than it needed to be. Moses has publicly apologised for any offence caused, as has the original poster of the comments who did not intend to cause this much trouble. I do not feel that this warrants an author losing his livelihood and ruining years of hard work to produce the book.

Despite multiple accusations to the contrary, Moses freely agreed to donate his royalties to charity. There was no coercion from me, however we both recognise that due to an increasingly stressful situation that decisions were rushed on both sides. I’m pleased to say that Moses and I have spoken again today, we stand together, and have agreed that he will receive 100% of his royalties.

Maybe I was hasty in my response, and I’m happy to admit to that. At the time I sincerely thought I was doing the right thing to diffuse an increasingly difficult situation. I will commit to donating all company profits from this first print run to the charity, Special Effect.

The bottom line is that is that Moses has apologised for his original comments, and will now be paid the royalties that are rightfully his.

Moses and myself have received a large amount of personal abuse and threats over the past few days. We hope that this statement will bring some closure to what has happened.

WHY DID YOU BOTHER WRITING ABOUT THIS

My appreciation for Tolkien is fuller now,
but directly by comparison to that which
is not Tolkien. Even the game itself – for
all the language it lifts from the pages of
Fellowship – recognises the distinction
between the art forms: in the final death
throes of its credits sequence, it tells
you to read the books.
Here, at the end of all things
(or, at the very least, this chapter),
that’s the encouragement that I’d
offer you. Read the books. Read them
if you’ve not read them. Re-read them
if you already have, to invoke Tolkien’s
friend, C.S. Lewis, who doubted whether
someone has truly enjoyed a book
until they’ve read it twice. Read about
the hobbit and his adventure to the
Lonely Mountain.
Read about the nine, the two towers,
the return of the king of Men. Read
of the creation of Arda, the Valar, the
Firstborn, the Silmarils, the original dark
lord Morgoth. Read the tales of the First,
Second and Third Ages.
It’s no small task, but Tolkien’s books
have enhanced, inspired, enthused and
shaped the direction of my own life, as
well as the lives of many others. How
could such a story not be compelling
(and relevant) when the humblest,
smallest, weakest and most ordinary of
creatures brings about such a climactic
social, political, religious, cultural and
even geological change?
So, my friends, read. That’s the final
word of The Lord of the Rings on
SNES, an awkward celebration of
foundational fantasy.

The Road goes ever on and on. It’s so long it can be difficult to tell which way is what, especially in a game that
recycles not just the same environs, but the same rooms. Even though I have the eyes of a hawk and the ears of a fox,

the tunnels, meadows and forests. I’m here to tell you there is no shame in using a guide. I highly recommend using

earned a little infamy for this. Hear me
out. It’s a new way to make an attempt
at understanding Chrono Trigger in a
wider context.
The buts show up right away. But
what about Mana? But what about
Final Fantasy Adventure? But what
about the SaGa series, a.k.a. The Final
Fantasy Legend 1, 2 and 3? But what
about Bravely Default, Xenogears,
Lost Odyssey or Octopath Traveler?
All intriguing cases in their own right,
whether due to regional naming
conventions and awkward localisation or
to the status of spiritual successor and/

Even ignoring that Moses is still a shithead, even ignoring “an author shouldn’t lose his livelihood”, the book looks like an incredibly poorly researched US-centric look at history that does nothing but damage people’s perceptions.
