a pinned intro-

Good vibrations, everyone. I am a game developer under the handle scitydreamer, and I mainly make RPG Maker games about miserable people.

I also run a site called Indie Hell Zone that’s primarily me blogging about indie games.

Hit up those links in bio to see more!
The header of my itch.io page, ranking the vibes of my games.

Left to right, from good vibrations to horrible fucking vibes;
To Crime Nirvana, Fishing Minigame 1 and 2 (2 had worse vibes, I Hate You Please Suffer, Hand of the Goddess, Decay, Slimes Screenshot of I Hate You, Please Suffer taken from Curate of the Curious. This depicts the Necromancy Investigation quest.

“So, these particular thieves are the Lonely Hearts. They’re some religious grief counseling group that turned to this more widescale cult in the last few years.” Text from my review of UFO 50’s Party House.

“I’ll be real with you: I swear that the wild buddies are hardcoded to show up together. There were multiple situations where I had two wild buddies in a row and think “there’s no way a third one will show up” like a naive fool, and lo and fucking behold, the vibes are ruined. I had one instance where two showed up and had a spy check the door to see a third wild buddy. I gave the wild buddy the boot, invited the next guest in, and you don’t understand how I felt when it was the fourth wild buddy. None of the other trouble making guests gave me as much trouble as this gang of shitheads. ACAB… but maybe the police can keep the wild buddies I hand them in jail for a little bit longer.” Text from my review of QUESTER:

“You got a nice array of guys to play around with, and while equipment can be interchangeable, they all have skills to carve out their own niches. Dob-Rock the Buddhist had been a general mainstay because he has a group healing skill out of the gate, while I’m impartial to Ekko the Officer because of her passive skillset that makes her kinda nutty with bladed weapons. You’ll occasionally get new crew members at new base camps, and while that does raise your food costs, well, that’s just the price of friendship.”

I'm as sick of saying it as you probably are of saying it but IF YOU'RE NOT A PROFESSIONAL THIEF, ANY INDUSTRY THAT CAN'T SURVIVE WITHOUT STEALING OTHER PEOPLE'S GOODS AND SERVICES DESERVES TO DIE.

"Parryslop" discourse? No thanks, as an intellectual I've already moved on to evolved discussions about platformers having "Jumpslop," music games having "Rhythmslop," and fighting games having "Attackslop"

If you think a game about going after the KKK would be controversial due to the current political climate, it's a good sign you should make a game about going after the KKK.

note to the reader: Bitmap Books have not addressed the fact that said author has gone full tilt and has been running a "victim of cancel culture" campaign. They have also not addressed the fact that said book is hot garbage which, for example, cites fandom wiki as its main image source

This is sort of why I think we almost need a way not to elect anyone over about 60 as president. Put simply, I want presidents to have something to lose after their presidency, and if they are right at the end of their life spans, they don't have a lot to lose...

HOLD THE FUCK UP KEN-SAMA, RUN THIS BY ME AGAIN? THIS IS A TRADITIONAL JAPANESE PHILOSOPHY? WHAT? CITE A FUCKING SOURCE. MOTHERFUCKER TELL ME

oh my god we're opening this as a can of worms JESUS CHRIST DUDE
The Final Fantasy crystal, however,
appears as both object and theme in
this series. Sometimes a crystal is called
an orb or a sphere, but the form and
function is the same. They seem to, well,
crystallise the concept of the Fantasy
and thus they are often featured on FF
title screens and logos. They are myth
in physical form. They are the Buddhist
godai, the elemental building blocks
of the universe. Though they may be
central to the plot or premise, or not, they
are the arcane, the stuff of legends, the
representatives of elemental Nature with
a capital N, occasionally even personified
and frequently sought out by heroes and
villains. In what seems to be a traditionally
Japanese philosophy, crystals help to
parse out a thread of environmentalism
in the face of growing military or modern
power, a push towards harmony with
nature in the face of relentless
technological advancement.

Like, if this guy was a game journalist he’d be raked through the coals for insane writing and disrespecting game history despite presenting himself as a historian, but because he’s an explicitly rightwing guy the crowd that’d normally do that stuff think he’s based

“I refuse to address the Romancing SaGa and Shin Megami Tensei games despite their impacts because they weren’t officially localized back then. Anyway, let me talk about a game that sucks that I didn’t even play until now.”

bro

okay you aren't writing about this game because it's nostalgiabait for you but you're still just using this as an excuse to wax nostalgic about your childhood Not Playing This Videogame. why this over any other game. is it literally just bc people say it's "the worst" and you wanted that crown
should suffer so much fear
and doubt over so small a
thing, but it’s difficult to be
generous here.
Looking at the critical
consensus from the time, it
appears that that’s always
been difficult. Had I but
known this game existed
back in the day, I would’ve
been interested in playing
Lord of the Rings. I just know
it. I couldn’t have resisted the
temptation to take on this
great evil
for myself.
I have loved
Tolkien’s
writings
since I was a
boy. I used to
spend hours
drawing my
own versions
of these
characters –
it’s strange
to recall
a time before their visual
interpretations truly hit the
mainstream. My favourite
thing was the singing, though.
One of my dearest childhood
memories is riding in the
back of a flatbed truck with
my younger brother beside
me. We sang all the way
home from a remote beach
trip, all the songs we could
read out of the already worn
and well-used copy of The
Hobbit that I carried with me

Like, putting aside the fact that Moses Norton is a genuinely shitty human being, would *you* spend a whopping $48 USD (pre-tax and shipping) on a book that cites a bunch of fan wikis and claims it’s in-depth research? Would you buy another book from a pub who A-OK’d this?

okay I was skimming back to illusion of gaia, oh my god chrono trigger's section is so loWHAT

OH COME ON THIS IS JUST YOU WANTING TO PICK INTERNET FIGHTS IN A BOOK AND SOUND LIKE YOU WIN BY HAVING A BOOK PUBLISHED
What if the details of its story and the
tapestry of its history were enough to
make it an honorary Final Fantasy? I’ve
earned a little infamy for this. Hear me
out. It’s a new way to make an attempt
at understanding Chrono Trigger in a
wider context.
The buts show up right away. But
what about Mana? But what about
Final Fantasy Adventure? But what
about the SaGa series, a.k.a. The Final
Fantasy Legend 1, 2 and 3? But what
about Bravely Default, Xenogears,
Lost Odyssey or Octopath Traveler?
All intriguing cases in their own right,
whether due to regional naming
conventions and awkward localisation or
to the status of spiritual successor and/
or spinoff. Clearly, it’s a big minefield to
navigate but this is uniquely about Chrono
Trigger and its position in gaming history.
The others can have their own essays
written by more interested writers.
Seven reasons why Chrono Trigger
is a Final Fantasy.

Yeah nevermind, fuck @bitmapbooks.com.

Even ignoring that Moses is still a shithead, even ignoring “an author shouldn’t lose his livelihood”, the book looks like an incredibly poorly researched US-centric look at history that does nothing but damage people’s perceptions.
Screenshot from Moses Nortons Twitter, where he is excited that he “beat cancel culture” and promoting the “book that the mob tried to get canceled”

If you're just trying to troll me, I've seen way worse, i'll restrict and move on. But please, if you've got any decency, just stop doing this to him and to me, to everyone even, full stop. It's dumb, it's a waste of time and energy, and believe me, it's NOT what he'd want.
To watch the legacies of real people be condensed down to 'this vaguely looks and sounds like them so that's enough,

other people can churn out horrible TikTok slop puppeteering them is maddening. Gross. And for the love of EVERYTHING, stop calling it 'the future. Al is just badly recycling and regurgitating the past to be reconsumed. You are taking in the Human Centipede of content, and from the very very end of the line, all while the folks at the front laugh and laugh, consume and consume.
