was talking to a friend earlier about how this trope—much like my #1 gripe “no one ever actually reads INFINITE JEST/Pynchon/&c”—is pernicious because in 2025 it exists more in jokes than in actual nature; to propagate it is to dismiss literary fiction on spurious, largely-anti-intellectual grounds
"all literary fiction is about horny male professors" is such a giant red flag, especially from a WRITER, because it's basically admitting that not only have you not read decades of work by women writers, queer writers, writers of color, you're not even AWARE of it
